    Kudos to Sam Adams

As some of you know a few days back we lost everything to a fire. It has been a trying time. But Sam Adams unwittingly provided a little ray of sunshine. When the O-Fests first hit the shelves this year I bought a sixer. Not my favorite, but the Wife and my oldest son love it. SO . . . Anyway...

12 Beers of Christmas 2020 Edition

I am sorry to do this at such late date, but i have to back out of the West Coast group. We had a house fire a few days ago and largely lost everything. This includes the now VERY insignificant brew gear in my collection. Apologies for the inconvenience but believe me I wish it were otherwise.

    What do you taste?

Have you tried extending your pinkie finger on your drinking hand, with your nose slightly tilted up, and with a smug knowing look in your eye? It is supposed to unleash the full potential of the olfactory/taste sensory system! It worked for the pretentious wine crowd for decades till it was...

    Forced carb

Yes, and yes. Regulators are not always the most reliable critters and it is not unusual to see a drop without a leak in the system. Still it would pay to double check all your connections to be sure you don't have a squeaker somewhere.

How do I get a higher ABV out of Birch Sap?

Dry ice and a cooler brother! Dry ice and a cooler. Or a good late January night or two around my parts.

Made me feel good - behold the power of beer

I was hesitant to post this link because i really don't want to wreck the day with another round of the tired old snotty comments about BMC's from the beer snob crowd. But this old gals story made me smile. Is there anything beer can't fix...

    I miss baseball.

Yea I'm with ya, I am an admitted B-Ball junkie. STILL, being a Tigers fan I can safely say they have a MUCH better record at this point than I expected!!!

How do I get a higher ABV out of Birch Sap?

The seasons are little off, but freeze distillation in winter temps would boost the booze! Search freeze distillation (Jacking - as in apple jack) and you will get some good insight.

Hope not - I am in Michigan, but joined the West to get a slot and help fill her up.

    Unexpected mixture of grains

So, I ended up taking 1/4 of the blend , and added enough MO to get a 1.036 ordinary Bitter. I hopped to 32 IBU total with all Northdown at 60 20 and 5. Pretty similar to a beer I make regularly. I chucked it on some Notty, and let here rip at 64 F. After 3 days I bumped up to 72 for two days...

How do YOU decide what to make next?

In line with the original premise of this thread, I am somewhat curious as to HOW folks choose to brew? Are you rigidly dedicated to dialing in the recipe and process with an eye to consistent repeat ability in the end product. Or do you take more of a craft "ish" approach with slight...

Video consoles: What should I buy, I'm bored.

I feel a bud! Did the powers that be in WA close the outdoors entirely? Gophers must be popping up or soon will be - it may not be a Palma match, but i got a lot of customers in your neck of the woods that can make hay with a small cal weapon and a patch of gophers

Video consoles: What should I buy, I'm bored.

I should expand on that: I have books, they generally don't get outdated, the batteries don't go dead, and they don't have power cords. They are positively full of info and entertainment. SURE they are old fashioned - and archaic - but they are still pretty useful. And best of all if the...

    natural carbonation in a keg...

Yes thank you - I have in the past read the sermons from the church of LODO, but it is always good to review them. Nonetheless: I was not requesting mathematical justification for the viewpoint that ONLY natural carbonation is acceptable process. I was seeking that indisputable irrefutable...
