An old school how-to for hydrometer testing

This was too cool! I found the article really interesting, especially the stuff about one half of one percent. Scrolling through the other articles was cool too. I read it last night, going to read some more tonight!

Poll, who will kill more bacteria!

Haha! I am also interested in the outcome of this.. my guess will be that both work do the trick.

7 weeks is a little long, but not unheard of... Crack the lid and taste a sample! I am sure its good, bottle it up and enjoy =)

Which Beer Took Your "BMC Virginity"

Samuel Smiths Oatmeal Stout and Arrogant Bastard. I used to drink tons of the cheap stuff, but I would buy bombers of these to "start the night". AB was really the first I think, but I walked into an Albertson's and they had a shopping cart full of bombers for a buck. Mostly Samuel Smiths, so I...

Set it and Forget it question

The gas should remain turned on the whole time.

Should you drink Homebrew out of the bottle?

Obviously a glass is the first choice for most everyone. I keg my beer, so drinking out of a bottle is extremely rare. I do, however, fill up 1 liter bottles from the keg when I go places that do not allow glass. I will then drink from the plastic bottle. No yeast to worry about for me in that case.

Both bags of malt are hard, not powder?

When DME gets old, it will get hard like that. It should be OK, I have some that is 10 years old that I use for starters. If its hard like that, hit it with a rolling pin or something solid, and you can break it back down to its powdered form. Kind of like sugar, a little bit of humidity can...

    AHS American IPA

I have not done this specific kit.. however, I have brewed quite a few of their other kits. Every single one has been awesome. Great recipes, high quality ingredients; I am sure you will be impressed.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

What do you mean by extended? I have a batch still in the fermenter right now that has been in there for 5 months... and since I am busy, it probably won't see bottle/keg for at least another month.

    Drippy perlick

The 525 is not the creamer, I think thats the 575.

    Drippy perlick

Yeah, I got the 525's and they seem kinda sloppy. Maybe they need to be adjusted? Sometimes, 12psi is enough for them to start pouring on their own when I hook them up to a fresh keg.

Fulton County (Atlanta, GA) Water profile, anyone?

Um, that machine just takes the same water you get from the tap and runs it though filter(s) that get changed occasionally.

    Christmas Comes Early!

Yay! You are going to love kegging!

    Smallest Freezer for 6 kegs?

This is the one I have, and fits them great with the collar.
  18. KillerKellers

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Well, if you wait until its clear (totally clear, like looking at a bottle of white wine) then I would say go ahead and bottle it and give it as gifts. I would just let those people know to wait a few months to drink it!

    Need a sissified wing sauce

We do the Franks with butter for making mild wings.. also try butter and garlic, then sprinkle with Parmesan cheese for a change of pace.

    Cloudy beer from kegs

Yeah, I find my kegs clear up in a couple of weeks... but if I rush it, I just tell people "its natural and unfiltered." Damn hippies think its extra special at that point!
