Plastic Quick Disconnects Used with a Glycol Chiller

I have one set of the SS Brewtech's QD and they seem to work fine at my cold crash temps with a Spike chiller pump. Sounds like these are a no go then. I only saw these in a 1/4" & 3/8" valved version....did you replace with a 1/2" valved DC?

Plastic Quick Disconnects Used with a Glycol Chiller

Did anyone order these? The difference I am seeing between the two are that the SS Brewtech sells states; "The quick disconnect fitting was custom tooled for Ss Brewtech with 3/8" hose barbs and features all EPDM seals, which maintain sealing properties at low temperatures." The spec sheet...

I guess I just don’t get the motivation to troll. Absolutely zero post value. This is a awesome valuable thread, let’s keep it going. I think it’s safe to say at this point the thread is for people that have already bought units not those looking to research before buying.

Yup back up for me too. I haven heard of anyone placing an order yet though. I might place a small order and see how it goes.

Are you aware if anyone has started a parts list? I went back to the Taiwan/Mongolian site and it appears to be down now...it was up this morning.

Has anyone placed an part order from (https://univision-taiwan.wixsite.com/univision/...wer-supply) yet? Fortunately, I haven’t had any issues with my + unit but figured I would pick up some parts when something does fail. I actually enjoy the tinkering aspect of the hobby and will enjoy...

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

You can also put a gas disconnect on the other end and attach it to a keg full of starsan and purge your serving keg into a 6gal bucket. Works great and saves co2.

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

I have heard it described as 5hr energy like aftertaste....however I haven’t heard it from everyone so I’ve been crossing my fingers. Hopefully it fades over time since your beer is young? Going to sample mine tomorrow

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

I have a beer fermenting (galaxy/Nelson/El Dorado NEIPA) right now in my chest freezer at 85F. I’m going to try to turn it around in 4-5 days. If it comes out good, it will be a nice quick turnaround option....if it’s just ok...I’ll just set my fermenter at 66 and wait a few more days with a...

Agree, that’s my favorite part of running glycol.

    Spike Brewing Company

I’ve asked about picking something up instead of shipping and they said it was fine..,just reach out to them ahead of time. I don’t think it’s a retail store. I ended up having it shipped though.

A small tube/pipe cutter. You can get them at the home centers or online for $10-15.

Just remember to cut the liquid side dip tube 1/2” when using it for brewing. Fermenting in a keg has a lot of benefits including low O2 (pressure transfers) and fermenting under pressure. I still like to ferment small batches in kegs even though I have since sold my Zymatic.

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

I have both a fermentation freezer for my SS brew buckets and a DIY glycol chiller for my CF5. I'm fairly confident they both maintain temp about the same +/- 1 or 2 F. Advantages I have found over the freezer...its faster to temp (more efficient), I can transfer 80-90F wort during the summer...

I’m really enjoying mine. I’m not sure why there is so much passion to tell me not to like it? Hoping this thread gets back on topic. Brewed a Pils using Mecca Grade malt hopped with Nelson while mowing the lawn and smoking some ribs today. Running the cleaning cycle now. Been alternating...

    Difficulty breathing after milling grains

Nuisance dust masks are ok for large particles but if you want better protection just pick up a $15 half-face with a pair of HEPA filters. The fine particles are the ones you need to worry about most. A good idea if you brew frequently and/or work with large volumes of grain...

My guess is they won’t me moving too many units at $5k. Their “sale price” is probably where the price will need to be with holiday prices at the early backer price range to move units. Hopefully their margin can allow that.
