    Yeast Washing Illustrated

Are there any problems that could arise, or is it really that simple?

    Yeast Washing Illustrated

Would it be ok to just swish the water around with the yeast in the bottom of the fermentor and then pour the next batch on top?

Should I try brewing a lager?

As the weather gets colder I know my garage will probably stay in the 50s for a while, so I reckon the fermenting would go ok, but what happens to the bottles of lager when the weather warms up again? Will they go bad if kept in the 60s? No, I don't have a fridge.

    Very little carbonation

The carbonation seems fine now. Some of the bottles have a little less, but with an aggressive pour I'll get a very Guinness-like head formation. I must not have mixed the primer in well enough.

    Very little carbonation

Maybe I just need to give it some more time. The alcohol is probably 6 or 7 percent, so perhaps that's slowing things down a little.

    Very little carbonation

Thanks for the link. I'll give it a try the next time. For this batch I'll just wait a few more weeks to see what happens.

    Very little carbonation

Funny you say that because most of the time I don't use a secondary, and this is the first time I've had a problem with carbonation. I think I'll stick with 3 weeks or so in the primary from now on.

    Very little carbonation

Nope. Flat as a pancake. I'm storing them in the high 60s, so that shouldn't be the issue.
  10. R

    Very little carbonation

It's barely carbed at all. If I pour it aggressively I'll get some small, weak bubbles, but that's about it. I couldn't tell you the exact amount of corn sugar...just what AHS put in their little packets.
  11. R

    Very little carbonation

I don't get it. I bottled my AHS American Pale Ale over a month ago, and there is still very little carbonation. I used the carbing sugar that came with the kit...boiled it in a couple of cups of water then mixed in the bottling bucket. This batch sat in secondary for a bit longer than normal...

    Yeast Starter question

My guess would be that you'll end up with superheated dme/water that will explode all over the inside of your microwave if you try to boil the mixture for long enough.

    Yeast Starter question

Thanks for the advice. I have another question...does it matter if I use light DME for the starter when the beer I am brewing is made with darker malts?

Old Saaz hops pellets - any good?

My father in law has a bag of Saaz pellets that he has kept in the freezer for the last 10 years. They were sealed in double ziplock bags the whole time...would they still be useable?

    Yeast Starter question

So a starter in primary could potentially be ok for several weeks...I'm warming to the idea of making starters now that I've read about this easy method.:rockin:

It really is amazing what aging will do

    Heheheh...I think I can handle it.:D

It really is amazing what aging will do

Will hop flavor disappear altogether if the beer is left long enough? I guess hops are something best kept fresh.

It really is amazing what aging will do

It's been a couple of months since I brewed. Probably 6 weeks or so in the bottle. I made it a bit less than 5 gallons though, so it's stronger than normal. I've noticed some improvement in taste already, but I expect it will be much better by the time the weather gets colder, which is when I...

It really is amazing what aging will do

I'm hoping the same thing will happen with my batch of Cooper's Stout, as it currently has the same 'dark' taste that the Christmas Ale did.

It really is amazing what aging will do

Back in February I made a batch of Brewferm's Christmas Ale, and after a few weeks in the bottle it tasted terrible. The aroma was great but there was too much bitterness. The best way I can describe it is that it was too dark tasting. Well, I cracked open a bottle last night to see how it...
