    Brewjacket immersion pro cooling issue

The filter really hardly had any dust in it but I took it out and cleaned it anyway. Fan is working so that's good. I did note that two of the screws holding the fan to the cooling/heating unit were a little loose so they are nice and tight now. We'll see. This is still a dry run. using water...

I do have the jacket. I'll try what you suggested. Thankyou.

    Brewjacket immersion pro cooling issue

So, I got this with a bunch of other equipment so it was basically free. It powers on and it cools "a little" but it's not really doing it. I was thinking it is the heat exchange base but I really have no idea. Has anyone got any experience with this? I mean, if I spend a hundred bucks on this...

Picked up this sweet Fastferment setup on the cheap. :-)

Picked this up today from someone who was selling it in a Facebook brewing discussion group. $175 for the fermenter, the immersion unit and the insulation jacket. Came with all the instructions plus additional cap when the immersion unit isn't needed, etc... Can't really beat the price.

Updated my IPA recipe - brewing it today

Closer but still want it to be lighter so off we go to the late extract method. :-)

    Fermentation not starting

Ya, pitching additional yeast won't hurt it. Wear gloves and a mask to cut down on the potential of infection and you should be all set

    Fermentation not starting

Honestly, I've seen it go up to 48 hours or even a little longer before I started seeing activity. Is there condensation in the airlock? If there is, I would take that as a sign that it is fermenting normally. Also, if you have it in a bucket with a thermometer you can compare the temperature of...

    Fermentation not starting

If you're positive it's not fermenting then sure, you can pitch more yeast.

I've never seen active fermentation in that short a time span

Not sure what the difference is - besides the fact that the yeast was refrigerated while waiting for me to have a brew day but I was done at 3 p.m. yesterday and at 9 a.m. this morning, that airlock is a crackalackin. That's pretty awesome. :-) Same yeast as my last batch. Of course, this time I...

Updated my IPA recipe - brewing it today

This is my first IPA attempt - as you can see - too dark but the hop schedule is honestly awesome I think. Nice bitterness to it without overdoing it and vary flavorful and aromatic. :-)

Updated my IPA recipe - brewing it today

Good article. Thanks. I'll see how this one comes out. If it's still dark/darkish to what I'm looking for I'll def. give this a try.

What is the benefit to adding it later?

Updated my IPA recipe - brewing it today

So this was the original recipe - Designing my first IPA from scratch I found that it was too dark for what I was looking for and while it tasted delicious, it was also a little on the "heavy" side (if that makes sense). I guess I was looking for a crisper flavor. So I changed the DME and LME...

    Clarifying my beer

I had this same question a few years ago. It was recommended to me to use Irish Moss. Honestly, it works great. I've been doing IPA's lately so not using it as I actually prefer that hazy look in an ipa

    Fermentation not starting

What I normally look for is condensation inside of the airlock. If I see condensation then that seems to be a good way of knowing if it's fermenting or not, even if the airlock itself seems relatively inactive.

    I didn't use a hop sock .... is this ruined beer? ?

Just thought I would mention that I never use a sock when doing hops. Into the kettle they go. All that crap settles to the bottom anyway and when you get to bottling day it's a perfect mix for your garden.

    I didn't use a hop sock .... is this ruined beer? ?

I wouldn't worry about filtering it but if you want a clearer beer next time, Irish Moss is a good way to go. Personally, I don't shoot for a clear ipa but you can.

Designing my first IPA from scratch

    OG was 1.060. FG is 1.014. ABV = 6.04. :) and oh such a good aroma. :-)

    It's BOTTLING DAY!!!! Ya, Baby!

My first attempt at a homemade IPA Bobs IPA is ready to bottle. I'm so excited. One step closer to my modest dream of creating my own ipa from scratch that I can say, HEY - this is mine.
