    West Yorkshire 1469

Cool. I think it'll clean up. probably 3 days or so, i'd imagine. keep us posted!

    West Yorkshire 1469

haha, nice. I totally understand what you're saying, but what's happening is happening. Cloudy beer and Acetaldehyde. we are at the mercy of the yeast as brewers, and they tell us what they need to make us tasty beer. These yeast are saying they need warmer temp and more time. And they don't...

Also I'm assuming you meant you hit it with 30s of Oxygen rather than co2 prior to ferment, yeah?

    West Yorkshire 1469

Yeah it would. Acetaldehyde is usually present in younger beer, that is beer that has not had enough time to condition [on the yeast]. cloudy beer + Acetaldehyde = yeast not done yet. Higher temps = more active yeast = faster cleanup of the beer and said flavors and compounds like acetaldehyde.

i'd be willing to bet 1469 needs warmer temps than s04...

    Hop-back / torpedo-style vessel?

Ive considered the hop rocket from blichmann but really want something with tc fittings, so i was considering this from brewershardware.com: https://www.brewershardware.com/1_5-Tri-Clover-Compatible-Strainer-with-4-OD-Body-TC15STRAINER20.html Does anyone have any experience with vessels like this?

    Draft line balancing act....

Yeah, i think thats probably right for 3.5 volumes. 18-21psi and at least 15 feet. I think for 12 psi 10-12 feet will work well, as it seems 6 ft is working just ok. What do you keep your keezer temp at?

    Blichmann BrewEasy

Check 1) grain crush. Make sure it's on the fine side with intact husks. 2) I've found mashing out combined with using the smallest flow piece for draining the mash tun to be helpful in getting those last 2-3 pts of gravity, as danam404 has mentioned. Cheers!

    Blichmann BrewEasy

I've done just over 17 lbs but efficiency suffered (mid 60s). There was a great brewing network podcast (think it was an episode of brew strong) with John blichmann talking about doing a double mash with the 5 gal brew easy. John Palmer did some quick calcs and they confirmed the accretive...

    Draft line balancing act....

So im settled the calculators suck. Ive had a beast of a time balancing my high-carb lines. I have 6 ft 3/16" bevlex on my normal lines (2ft rise, normal shanks and taps) and it seems it could likely take 7ft. For 3+ vols, im running 8-9 ft with perlick 650s almost all the way closed. Im...

Stalled Fermentation? WLP-017 Whitbread Ale in Special Bitter

if krausen hasn't gone down it may not be done. Dunno if its just a slow finishing yeast or what. I just pitched the T58 and it seemed to finish it out. Beer turned out great!

What wort pH is best for fermentation and beer quality?

From Jamil and John Palmer they indicate mash ph of 5.4-5.8 at room temperature is ideal for enzymatic activity in the mash, while mash ph of 5.2-5.6 at room temperature is actually better for flavor stability...

    Stone Xocoveza Mocha Stout

Ha im an idiot...WLP-007 not 005... Cool, good to know about the nibs vs. powder!

    Stone Xocoveza Mocha Stout

Funny, I read it as suggesting folks use dry English 005....my understanding is that is stones house yeast so it makes sense. I think people were using 001, but 002 wouldn't dry it out enough....

Arizona Blichmann Therminator plate chiller for sale, $150

Have a Blichmann Therminator that came with my BrewEasy system about a year ago. Used it for 10 batches, cleaned and maintained per Blichmann's manual. Works very well. Switched to CFC with Tri Clamps for sanitation purposes so I don't have use for the Therminator at this time. Buyer pays...
