    Cutting up aluminum keg

I scored a free aluminum keg and bronco pump off a friend today. He cleaned out a storage shed and didn't know he had it. I almost passed on it since it isnt ss, but I figured I could use it as a hot liquor tank since it will only use it for water. Anything to look out for when I cut it up with...

    Walk In cooler project

Awesome build! Any ballpark estimate on how much you spent on it. I live in SoCal but summers normally hit high 90s and triple digits easily. Would this work outdoors? I'm out of room in the garage

    Refrigeration?

Higher gravity beer will definitely benefit from cold conditioning. You can get by with the small beers without much conditioning at all

    Growth on bottom of carboy?

Yeast and trub. Sanitation and temperature control go a long way. I just recently started controlling temperature and that is after 15-20 batches. Good job! At this rate you'll be doing all grain in a brew sculpture by your 5th batch

    Damn, I love homebrew

I agree with you on homebrew training the taste buds. I even became more critical with food. Home brew keeps me from buying high volumes of commercial brews. Nowadays I buy less, but more expensive bottles to get a feel for what new styles I brew should taste like. I remember my first bittle of...

    I need your opinions...

Looks fine to me. I ferment in glass carboys and after a week or so that's how it would look once the yeast started to clump up and drop. Looks like you had a nice krauesen ring around the wall

    Banana Wine

ok, this is definitely something on the list. After reading most of the thread how could you not grow curious just to taste this? I tried ed's apple wine a few years back and it was amazing.

    Help with my keezer setup

I am no expert, but I would assume you can get/ build a cheap 3 way manifold, set a high pressure, and then run your regulators off the manifold with the pressure dialed individually. Just make sure you get check valves between the regulator and your keg.

    kegerator or keezer... free

:mug: I pulled the trigger! So, I ended up getting the Danby 5.8 CU FT kegerator... and a GE 8.8 CU chest freezer. Since I burned through all my points and had a few hundred left I added another 3 books to my library. I figured there is no way my i'll be trying to lift a full size keg into a...

    kegerator or keezer... free

Need your help making up my mind on this one. I already have a magic chef 7.2 CF freezer that I have yet to convert over to a 6 tap. My job has a rewards program and long story short, I can get everything from tvs to riffles to... appliances. They have the large Danby kegerator and I have the...

    Sour beer turn around time

What sour beer style can I brew that will have the shortest wait time before it is good to go. I got a batch of morebeer's consecration kit in the works, but I know that will take some time before it is ready.

$26 for 60lb vittle vault storage at costco

you got me there. Umm... if you consider the shape and size of grain in comparison to dog food, one may note that the dog food would have more wasted space. Thanks for bursting my bubble. Seriously I cant wait to stock up on a few sacks of base malts. It will be so much easier removing that lid...

$26 for 60lb vittle vault storage at costco

Another impulsive brew purchase that was well worth it. What experience do any of you have with the containers? Will you be able to fit more grain than the 60lb since they are designed for dogfood?

    3 week old starter

Thanks for the input. I guess I can always make a lower gravity brew than I was planning and then just reuse the yeast for an imperial stout.

    3 week old starter

So I missed my brewday a few weeks ago and my 2 liter starter has been sitting in the fridge with a piece of foil covering the flask. I am brewing later today, should I still be ok using it?
