All Grain & Extract brewers competing against each other?

Exceptional points have been made all around and this is an attempt to assist in organizing them. This outline is information gleaned from this discussion sofar and should not be considered complete. Please adjust as necessary to enhance the discussion. --------------------------- What are...

All Grain & Extract brewers competing against each other?

    Provocative. Very good thought!

All Grain & Extract brewers competing against each other?

Zamial, The same thing can be said for extract. You're saying that if you are not familiar with the intracies of advanced brewing techniques typically associated with AG brewing then extract is a viable alternative in order to remain competitive or compete at all. Quality isnt an issue...

All Grain & Extract brewers competing against each other?

Personally i wouldnt think any judge could differentiate between methods by merely tasting. That would be difficult indeed. Zamial, let me repose the question. Why are the extract brewers & their supporters so 'loud' on this topic & the AG people so quite. It's nothing personal, just an...

All Grain & Extract brewers competing against each other?

Well made points. Doesn't that still leave open the possibility of 'getting lucky' against more advanced & capable brewers with minimal effort, comprehention & knowledge? Also, im curious why nobodys standing up for the AG folks? Are their numbers dwindling due to the additional effort...

All Grain & Extract brewers competing against each other?

Now that's a good point. Should we differentiate then. Should "brew kits" entries be prohibited?

All Grain & Extract brewers competing against each other?

So we are to advocate renaming brew kits and entering them in a contest? I'd like to determine, beyond the final product being beer, how the various methods can possibly compare. All Grain - you learn and study a great many details, develop recipes based upon BJCP style guidelines in hopes...

All Grain & Extract brewers competing against each other?

With all these competitions popping up everywhere shouldn't All Grain & Extract brewers be competing individually instead of against each other? What is everyone's thoughts regarding this?

    Cry Havoc as an ale...

I am in the process of reinvigorating a vial of this. Probably got about another 2 weeks during which I plan to formulate what I want to brew with it and ultimately add this yeast to my yeast bank. I see this post is a few months old and wondered if you've worked any further with this. This...

    Octoberfest Ale Recipes?

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

The containers in the picture are a bit deceiving. Within the containers I still keep my grain in large ziplock bags to insure freshness. The containers are great for organizing and visually inspecting inventory though.

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I have a brother in law living in Denham and get down there when I can. You're welcome to join me in the ole Man Cave up here in the Natchez/Vidalia area for a brew day and share tips anytime. I don't know of any home brewers here so it would be a pleasure to visit with someone with the same...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Like most everyone else, I've played extensively with this recipe. It is exceptional just by itself but makes, as many of us have discovered, a wonderful starting for some very tasty brews. I have probably brewed close to 100 gallons of this recipe. We just love it. I recently tweaked it...

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

Put a variation of this in the fermenter on 10-22 with a gravity of 1.072 and did a gravity check yesterday on 10-30 with a gravity of 1.016. Aroma was superb and sample flavor was great as well. I plan to rack to secondary in about a week over some mexican vanilla extract that my wife has. I...

    California Dreamin' Lager

Has anyone brewed the BeerSmith California Dreamin' Lager? I brewed this on 10-18-12:, (this is my first lager but have brewed over 400gal ale - all grain so am not a newbie), and have built a standard lagering setup with a small freezer with a Ranco controller that will do up to 15gal. I...

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

I'm mashing my first attempt at this brew as I type. Not going to be ready for Halloween but should be keg'd and carb'd by Thanksgiving. Thanks for the recipe!

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

We have a couple of really good threads here regarding that. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/pellet-vs-leaf-108766/ and https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/leaf-vs-pellet-hops-67383/

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

WOW. I recon experience pays. What kind of gelatin are u using? It takes me at least 3 weeks to get to that point. Not disapointed with results at all. I'd love to compare mine @ 3 weeks to one @ 10 days though, (for flavor). Had a man tell me that mine @ three weeks tasted like God pee'd...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I think where I may be screwing up is that I carb, keg & cold crash at the same time. Typically on "Keg Day" I go ahead and pressurize the keg and then put it in the cold crash freezer or kegerator. After about a week, I'll bleed it down to the correct pressure and hook it into the system and...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I have done about 140 gallons of the CB. We all like it and I am doing about 30 gal's up for hunting season here in the south. I have played with it some by reversing the order the hops go in and it was great either way with the correct way still being popular as you'd think but most pallets...
