Trying to design my new mash tun. I will have false bottom that is 2 inches off the floor. I am going to put valve and pickup tube under it. Question does it matter where the pickup is? Should it be as close to center of kettle as possible or does it matter with a false bottom

I did an experiment once made 10 gallons with wlp500 on carboy I cold crashed after 10 days and used gelatin to drop the yeast and keged the beer the other carboy I let age in primary for over a month before I keged. I actually preferred the one that wasn’t-aged for a month

It’s actually not that deep I surprised that it rusts so easily. I have deeper scratches on some of my cooking pots and they do not rust. Its a little disappointing but if I don’t get it out I am sure it would not affect the beer much

I have another issue just noticed a scratch on the bottom the immediately rust when it touches water. I scrubbed the crap out of it with liquid bar keepers friend the rust went away but after a rinsed the pot it came back

Just got her drilled. Used center punch and a nice cobalt 1/8 inch bit for pilot hole then lots of fluid and a step bit took it nice and slow smooth sailing thanks for the advice

I agree, but this beer is mashed low and has a lot of candy syrup so if the yeast poops out it’s pretty sweet. I think unfermentable sugars higher mash temp are not sweet

I had one batch finish at 1.015 and it was way to sweet couldn’t imagine 1.040

I just ordered the false bottom website says 19 5/8 diameter. I am kind of confused there are two concord pots a S series and series 3 one says 20” wide and the other says 19.5” wide I am assuming you guys have the one that is 20” wide?
