Ever feel close to giving up?? OR Has your beer always been good??

I honestly wish I had an INKLING as to where my faults were. I haven't made any kit beers, just recipes, 2 with steeped grains, the rest partial mash's. Frankly I'm starting to think that its not me. As I said, 2 of the last 3 beers have been good, so things are definately looking up, I just...

My LHBS Is Starting To Bother Me

I never get help with my grains, but my LHBS might be different than yours in setup. I ALWAYS measure all of my own grains, to the T, crush them there (they have a mill I can use) and then give them the recipe I have printed out and they bill me off that list. They trust me and I know I get what...

Ever feel close to giving up?? OR Has your beer always been good??

Guys, I just wanted to share with you. I was getting really depressed with my brews and was pretty close to just giving up and going back to commercial craft brews recently. Until yesterday, to date, I'd had 1 successful batch, my 5th. It was good beer, a beer that I'd be pretty happy with if...

    Are you a Hop Head?

Jeepsn Beer, I agree with you 100% on DFH 120. Some friends of ours brought over a 120 for us all 4 to split, 3oz each. No one could finish their portion. It was sickly sweet and disgusting. I like DFH 60 minute, Racer 5 IPA, Stone IPA, Deschutes Inversion IPA, Deschutes Hop Henge, and...

    Kits vs. recipe

I never used a kit, just went straight to recipes. Took 2 batches of extract with steeped grains before I switched to partial mash. My 5th batch was the first beer I wrote my own recipes of, and I look forward to more of my own recipes in the future. :)

    Are you a Hop Head?

I think that chart is way off. DFH's 60 Minute IPA is 1.060 OG, with 60IBUs. That puts it off the chart as far as hoppiness goes, but that beer is probably one of the most balanced IPAs that I've had, almost bordering on too sweet/malty for me. Am I reading it wrong? I'm currently...

Opinions, please. First beer I'm designing (sorta'...)

Thats an interesting hop schedule. I like the idea of using a low AA hop for so many additions, get the bittering going with the magnum, but do a bunch of low AA additions for aroma and flavor. neat idea. wanna send me some for... evaluation? :)

    Ignorant Drinkers

I dont know about you guys, but I hated beer the first time I tried it. Infact, it took a long time for me to develop the taste for beer that I have now, and there are still beers that I can't stomach drinking. English porters, most amber ales, dunkleweizens, belgian dubbels, etc. I'm sure you...

    My Fermentation 'closet'

homebrewer99, I haven't either, and I'm not anticipating it, but I have nothing to worry about it if it does happen. I wish I had a spare bedroom or even a spare corner of a room I could put everything in, but this truly is the only spare area in our house that will fit everything. and yeah...

    Making an "ALL" home brew?

I can understand the OP's idea with this post. its not that unlikely that we could all be thrust into a post apocalyptic world in the not too distant future. (tinfoil hat is ON, by the way). And to be able to do the full process from start to finish would be pretty effing invaluable in the...

    Brew naming conventions

Why not make a series of beers based on this instead of one? Shoryuken Lager (the only popular japanese beers are lagers) Psycho-Crusher IIPA Tiger-Uppercut IPA (seriously, a good ole IPA has to be called uppercut) Hadoken Amber Yoga Flame Chipotle Pale Sonic Boom Barley Wine :D Man...

    Tasting beer in primary

My beer always tastes very watery at racking and bottling. Don't sweat it, it gets better.

    My Fermentation 'closet'

We live in a condo with 2.5 baths, so we have one other full bathroom with tub/shower that we use (my bathroom). I don't have room anywhere else in the house to put all of this stuff, and incase I get any leaks or bottle bombs, it goes down the drain :)

    Down 10lbs in 10 days

One thing I learned when I was working out all the time (which I need to get back to) is that your body works off of short-term supplies of energy for the first 20 minutes or so of the workout, after 20 minutes, then it turns to its fat stores for energy to burn. So everything after 20 minutes...

    Starch conversion question

I don't think its required to germinate the wheat prior to making flour and thus dough out of it. Without germination, the required enzymes for conversion may not be present. Also, the 'crush' to make it into flour prior to making the noodles would probably be a bit too fine to yield anything...
