Is it time for me to try partial mash brewing?

I ended up going to PM on my 4th batch. I built a mash tun that lets me mash just over 5lbs of grains. Its great becuase I don't have to stress out about my mash going PERFECTLY becuase I don't depend on it for much of my fermentables. I like the fact that I'm not limited by what grains I can...

    Transformers

Evan, geeze dude, lighten up! Do you clap or cheer when you're watching sports on TV? I'll clap at home when something awesome happens in Battlestar Galactica or back when I was watching Firefly. (but only when other people are there) I'll clap when I'm watching Formula 1 and a driver I...

    5 day fermentation too short?

I don't use a hydrometer most of the time because the beer is still turning out good and I'd be wasting beer and introducing a higher chance of contamination by cracking the lid and sticking in a wine theif. Which I also haven't bought. I think thats my main reason. I have no good way to extract...

Calculating how much extract to use in a partial mash - Does this look right?

Download beersmith. I've found its fantastic for converting AG to PM recipies, or extract to PM. You put in the recipe that you have to start from, then subtract extract and add base grain (or add extract and subtract base grain) to achieve the desired result. Plus you get to keep a...

Mac & Jack Amber recipe needed.

I brewed the M&J Recipe out of BYO, in thier '150 Clone Brews' Recipe magazine. I'm pretty sure its the same recipe and frankly, I wasn't happy with it at all. No off flavors, just nothing like M&Js and not a very good beer overall. The 4 beers that I made afterwards using the SAME technique...

How bad is sucking to start siphon?

a half cup of corn sugar is going to make the beer not very carbonated, IIRC, you need 3/4 cup to carbonate 'normally'. half cup is going to be a little weak, but that might be to your taste. Lots of other things can get you good head on beer. Cara-pils is good for that.

Stone IPA Clone Comparison - You pick the real one!

Ed that looks fantastic. So you say that your beer tastes much more like the second Stone? I think I'm going to have to give this one a try here in a bit.

Is this chest freezer big enough for 2 cornies?

Thanks guys for your answers. I have little room right now so I need to try to keep this small, but at the same time, I think this is a better answer than a sanyo, although I guess a Sanyo could ultimately sit nicely in our kitchen, style wise, if we get a bigger house someday.

Is this chest freezer big enough for 2 cornies?

http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/hsh/364705967.html I'm wondering if this size of chest freezer is adequate enough to hold 2 cornies, a CO2 tank and all plubming pretty easily. I'd also like to keep other beers in there if there's extra room, but this will primarily be a kegerator. Anyone...

Wine coolers, or something like it?

Apfelwein!! I love the stuff, it tastes like applejuice only it gets you fnarked. Mine isn't even carbonated yet, but I've had it flat, both warm and cold, and its great.

    Racking Problems

You should get a different tube that has a slightly smaller ID so that it seals better to your canes. I got a new tube for bottling two batches last weekend and had the same problem, air getting in from the tubes not sealing tight. Get new hose, easiest way.

    Can't resist...

Man, if your stomach can handle beer thats actively fermenting, then nothin wrong with it at all! Personally I've gotten to the point where I don't taste my beers until 3 weeks in, and usually don't drink em until 4 in.

    Help With Pellet Hops

I use pellet hops and I don't bag em. I strain from the brewkettle spigot into my fermenter with no issues so far. I just keep a spoon handy and scoop the hop mush out of the strainer so it doesn't clog up. no biggie.

    Progression of a brewer

I started off on #4, then after 2 steeped grain batches, escalated to 8, which is where I sit. I'm going to skip 9 I think and go straight for kegs and kegerator.

Ever feel close to giving up?? OR Has your beer always been good??

Batch 1 = Didn't account for boil off and picked a bad recipe, too malty. Burned extract Batch 2 = Better recipe, not a bad beer, still burned the extract Batch 3 = Burned the PISS out of the extract. Had to get a power sander to get it off the bottom of my brew kettle. Last time using LME...

Ever feel close to giving up?? OR Has your beer always been good??

Heh, sorry guys, I guess I wasn't clear enough. I'm happy! The last beer I tried was good and I can explain away most of the other failures, so I'm really NOT unhappy. :) I've had 2 recent succesess, 1 failure (not sure why that one didn't work), but my partial mash's have been better. I WAS...
