Are you participating in the AHA Big Brew day on May 1st? If so which brew are you making?

Oops, the Janet's brown sounds nice, but I already have the yeast going for a hibiscus mead this weekend. Only one primary open...

    Used corny that had pesticides?

I can't get the smell of root beer out of my root beer keg, and you want to clean that out and call it good?
  4. TheBluePhantom

Did I just keg a bomb?

The keg has a safety valve, thats all you need. On the other hand, if it does ferment you would avoid a fountain. As long as you have the equipment, why not?

    Airlock options for no-chill?

Fill a big bag (think garbage bag) with co2 and rubber band it on to the ball valve. kind of late to get any decent fittings, you have to make do.

    Is BIGGER better?

Wait! You mean you have to have a reason to buy more kegs?!? Do NOT tell my wife about this!

    Help! Is this dangerous?!!!!

If it is not leaking, not really dangerous. The fall was dangerous, it could have snapped off something completely and caused harm. -Accurate, NO. But who cares, the tank gauge really only tells you when it is empty. -Replacement, about $10. -Stand or chains or milk crate, worth it...

    GETTING INTO IT QUESTIONS

There are always ads on Craigslist and the like, somebody getting out of brewing. Usually just a starter kit, but sometimes a really fancy setup. Many want near full price. They don't move well. Plan on losing, sorry. I am planning on my kid inheriting, that is how I got 3 carboys (dad) and...

No collar keezer temp probe line

You could attach a strip of wood to the wall with liquid nails. I have a collar, and I just let my manifolds float, easier to move them out of the way to move kegs.

    Is BIGGER better?

For cider I actually start in 7 gallon buckets with bandana covers, when the foam drops (~1.025) I switch to 6.5 gallon primaries. After the yeast drops and it starts clearing, about 4 weeks, I go to 5 gallon secondaries to age. the 6.5s are not full, plenty of room for foam. but I keep...

    Removable "floating" collar on keezer?

I just silicone mine. I did have to take a collar off a freezer I bought. slit through the silicone and pulled the collar, the rest of the silicone pulled off fairly easily, that plastic is non porous. It really is not hard to convert back as long as you don't make holes or cuts.

No collar keezer temp probe line

I punched a hole through the top of a chest freezer. figured I would put a tower there eventually. Don't do that, it looks terrible. Odie is right, they work just fine over the edge.

Grinding a tail off a shank?

No, that is shank, he is in prison and wants to hide his shank up his sleeve easier.

Grinding a tail off a shank?

You would be better off doing it on a lathe, you don't want the grind marks to hold bacteria. If the outside of the face has a good sealing surface it should work, Don't let anything tear up that sealing surface though.

    Desert wine Fermenting Help please

sometimes just swirling the yeast back into suspension can help. But where you are at right now, you may have to make a starter and decant to get another batch of healthy yeast in there. But be patient, it will slow down near the end, that was a big OG and the yeast are tired.

    Maraschino cherries

OK, there is no such thing as fresh maraschino cherries. They are a preserved cherry, originally marasche cherries, but other types are used now. So these are preserved. The jar says Preservative E220, a quick check on the internet gives this as sulfur dioxide. You could probably crush and...

    Maraschino cherries

Wow, just learned a lot bout maraschino cherries from wiki. Since they are preserved, what chemicals are in yours? They may not be fermentable at all.

    Possible Infection vs Boiling Again?

Stick with the schedule, you don't know how much you have changed it, so how would you know how much to correct it? Time is on your side, taste when it is done, correct if needed. It might already be a good beer, just not exactly what you expected. If it turns out great call it a Bob Ross...

Terrible beer... no head retention... help :)

Some basics on beer head retention. -Say yes to carapils or carafoam. These provide proteins for head formation. -Don't over do the kettle finings, Irish moss and such can take out the proteins that are needed for head formation. -I agree with Yooper, it looks undercarbed. -Clean the glass...

    Possible Infection vs Boiling Again?

It will be more bitter, have less aroma. on the other hand, it won't be a sour..... It will still be a beer. don't panic. Ferment it out, you can always dry hop later. I once had a blow off tube do a major suck back when i moved the carboy, I swear it took in a fruit fly. I took a deep...
