    Is this drinkable?

Brewed this yesterday. Added a 500ml starter of WLP008 and fermentation took off in about 2 hours. GOING STRONG to at 66 degrees! I'm about 1.5" away from needing a blow off tube, something I've NEVER needed, except when doing hefe's... Hydrometer sample for the OG reading tasted pretty good!

    Wlp 008 flocculation

Yes, this is a 2 year old post. But I was looking for info on WLP008 and the search function brought me here. I'd like to update this post with my observation so far. I brewed a very basic 1.050 APA yesterday, and made a 500 ml starter with this strain. It started fermenting in about 2...

    Is this drinkable?

Well, I'm tired of following everyone else's recipes and just modifying them a little and calling it my beer. So, I figured for the first time in 3 years of brewing (2 doing all grain), I would formulate my own recipe. As you can see, I am starting really simple. So, let me know if this is...

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

Well, I don't know if mine's right or wrong, but I let it ferment for a YEAR. I started at 1.134 OG and my FG was 1.042. It's a bit sweet, but it's not bad.

    Mash Tun Problem

When I followed the directions on the post here on how to make a cooler mash tun, I couldn't get mine to stop leaking either. My solution was that I bought a rubber grommet from Lowe's and installed that in the hole in my 10 gallon cooler. Once that was in, I worked the plumbing through the...

    Delayed Boil After Mash/Sparge

Obviously make sure you are very sanitary in your processes. Even though you'll boil the wort the next day, you wouldn't want anything to take hold of that sweet, delicious, sugary wort.

You're insane... :rockin: But rock on my friend! :)

1/2" wort chiller from straight copper pipe?

I always adjust the flow rate of my wort chiller to make sure the water is flowing through my chiller slow enough to absorb some of the wort temperature. I simply use my finger to test the water temperature coming out of my chiller; if it's cold, I slow the flow. If it's hot, I dial the water...

    Hop Trellis Designs

I did something REALLY easy for mine. I pounded about 2 feet of 2.5" PVC pipe into the ground, pulling it out occasionally to remove the dirt. I pounded that about 18" in the ground. Then I inserted 12' of 2" PVC into that 2.5" piece of PVC. I had a pulley at the top of the PVC pipe, and...

    2 tier brew stand

Excuse my ignorance on the subject, but is this for an electric setup? If not, how do you safely implement your burners?

How to measure wort in kettle?

I have a notched aluminum "dowel rod" that I have marked in .5 gallon increments.

    Bottling Questions

Typically on most of my ales, I use 4 oz of priming sugar from my LHBS. They sell it in 5 oz bags. Hopefully you have a precision scales for weighing small items; i.e. hops, DME (for starters), priming sugar, etc.

    PSI for Keg

Once my force carbing is done, I do turn off my regulator to that keg until I serve. I only have a picnic faucet on mine for now, and even though I have hose clamps on every connection, the last thing I want is a hose that is under pressure bursting. The last thing I want to come home to is a...

    co2 question

Well, I also received a partially full 20lb CO2 tank for my homebrew. I just plan on lugging my full 5 gallon cornie and my 20 lb CO2 tank with me to the parties I make beer for. If you do get a small, paintball style CO2 tank, I would try to get a new, never filled one. From what I...

Alternative Grain Beer Red Eye Rye

Well, I'm guilty of a "beginner" move here. I fermented this for two weeks and then cold crashed the primary for 2 days in the upper 30's to drop some of the yeast out of suspension. I then carbed it for a week in my fridge at 38 degrees and drank it. It is GOOD! The first couple glasses...

American Amber Ale Red Rye Ale

Well, I use White Labs WLP005 yeast with this one, and just checked my FG after two weeks and it was at 1.020. I wonder if I didn't mash this stuff correctly. My OG was 1.058, so my efficiency was better then I expected. It still calculates to about 5% ABV, not too shabby. It was pretty...

American Amber Ale Red Rye Ale

Personally, I just followed the directions to a T (or as close as I could) and went with the exact ingredients and measurements/amounts. If there is something I don't like about it, I can then modify it. I'm getting ready to transfer mine to secondary for a week or two very soon. Then I'll...

Steps to clean keg & lines with PBW

You're telling us that you developed pin hole leaks leaving cleaner or sanitizer in stainless steel containers that are designed hold acidic products? What are you using to clean these kegs, nitro-hydrochloric acid??? :p
