    Label: Nut Brown Ale

Finally got around to printing some labels for this 5 month old ale. Wanted to post up the design and execution. This is my strongest brew yet at ~6.5% if I were to guess, added lots of brown sugar to it. Let me know what you think of the design, and the photo might take awhile to load, I...

    Calculations: Dual Boil Evaporation Rate

Im currently running a dual boil after I collect my runnings, and I feel like I'm missing my post boil volumes. If my batch is being split to ~3/gals a pot(x2 5gal pots) should I change my evaporation rate to double? Right now in BeerSmith Im set at .5 gal/hr evaporation, but if I'm boiling...

First Label! Let Me Know What You Think!

Like the darkness, and overall design of the label. I tried the whole government warning and bar code stuff on my labels, and what I ended up doing was getting rid of it. 1.) Do you plan to sell?, 2.) Are your friends and family going to attempt to drink while pregnant? If you answered "No" to...

Always clean your mash tun immediately after brewing

Normally I clean during the boil, but I was teaching a new home brewer about calculations and just moved the mash tun outside and forgot about then went to bed. But yes sealed in the tun for two days is a horrid smell. Never again.

Always clean your mash tun immediately after brewing

For anyone who is thinking about postponing your mash tun cleaning til a later day. DONT!!! I got lazy after a late night of brewing and thought I'd leave the mash tun to clean another day. Well a couple days later I open to clean it and we have a quadruple imperial sour beer. Mold...

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

Didnt get around to a reading, but went ahead and added the Limeade, bubbling started back up in a hour. As for internal temp 76*F at night, and about 79*F during the day. Once this second phase of krausen dissipates I'll do a actual reading to see how it looks. Looks like beer, smells like...

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

Me and a friend brewed this two days ago, dialed back to 5.5 gallons. Hit all our targets on the dot. Usually when I do a hefe yeast I have crazy strong fermentation. This time it was bubbling away at about 2 burps a second through a 1.85"ish blow off tube, but no crazy krausen on the top, maybe...

    Beer and guns

I just bought my Ruger SR40 in September and love it. Ever paycheck I take it to the range and let loose 100rds. Great pistol, couldn't be happier, and the price was worth it $450. Hoping next paycheck to upgrade the spring and rod, firing pin spring and cocked indicator with a stainless steel...

    First all-grain yee-haw!

For those that dont have a wort chiller such as myself I use my kitchen sink, cold water, 5# ice, and salt. Submerge the brew pot above the level of the wort and stir both the wort and the ice water. Brings temps down to about 80 in 15mins. Might not work for your situation when chilling since I...

First AG and First Modified Recipe

Sorry if my post came out smarta$$ this morning. I was just restating that you were saying its a Hefe, and others say Im making it like a American Wheat. The recipe I got though does say Wheat though which I see as both ways.

First AG and First Modified Recipe

The Recipe originally called for 1056, but the LHBS I switched to had WLP001 same strain is what I was told. As for the actual style if 50/50 is Hefe then that looks like what it is, but from what Im understanding is this will turn out more like a American Wheat? My finished goal is a...

First AG and First Modified Recipe

After only doing one extract, and one partial. I decided to make a mash tun and go all grain. The recipe I've modified a bit in BeerSmith to try and work with what I have, which is going to kill my back by the end of the night. So here's the recipe I'm going to be using. Raspberry Wheat...

    Airlock overflowing.... leave it? or?

I wouldnt worry, my first brew blew up like a rocket. Scared the crap out of the girlfriend who was napping, she was too afraid to touch the fermenter thinking she'd mess it up, so all it had was a ziplock bag over it for 8 hrs. It was fine two weeks down the road, considering it was exposed for...

    First crack at beer labels

Yup, it does. This was shoot with a Canon 500D(T1i) using my Fantastic Plastic(50mm f/1.8) and bounce flash. As for labels, I printed them at work on a Xerox XC-550 using Glossy Xerox Full Sheet 8x10 Labels. I havent tested durability, but they do bubble a bit after 30mins of application...

    Illustrator or Photoshop help

I second "Classroom in a book". I suggest this to anyone before trying other materials. It'll start you off with the basic functions of every program, and includes some moderate material to get your brain ticking.

    First crack at beer labels

This label was rushed into use since I wanted to share my first born with some of my instructors at school before graduation. I got a great response from my instructors which wasnt expected since they are all graphic designers that work in the field. Also a great response as to how delicious the...

    Having fun in Arizona

Hi everyone, Im Joshua, and I picked up my first all glass homebrew kit a week ago, and am 5 days into fermentation of my first wheat beer. Just wanted to say hello, and share my story. My first brew mistake story. Thinking a airlock is good enough for the first 48hrs, and realizing 24hrs in...
