    Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil

just got the email for robobrew from williams. at $499 looks like nearly the same vessel with all the upgrades we've been discussing. oh well, good to be a guinea pig sometimes.

Local brewery allows employees to smoke while brewing...

would anyone eat at a restaurant if they saw the chef's smoking in the back while cooking the food?

    Making a shandy

i like the 1/3 idea. that gives you a low lemon beer and and a double lemon beer. also could do 1/3 with kool aid and 1/3 with the little plastic lemon squeeze bottle for a different lemon flavor.

    Making a shandy

i would add 1 packet per 5 gallons, or half packet for 1/2 the beer at bottling time, it needs time to mellow. try adding a little lemon to a current beer you've poured and see if you like it. without some mellowing over time, it tastes to obvious to me that kool-aid was added. but sure enough...

    Making a shandy

walmart carries the unsweetened little packs. I've done this to a blue moon clone that just didn't come out with much flavor. I actually added a pack of the orange kool-aid. one pack for the five gallons was strong for the first few days, but then mellowed and is now a tasty summer beer. I did...

Help a newbie plan out a year

    - the yeast really shouldn't matter as long as its an ale yeast. I'd pick the nottingham over the cider yeast for my simple recipe. Cider yeast might have a higher alcohol tolerance and you'll end up with a hot cider (too much abv) with little flavor. the nottingham and all ale yeasts die out...

Opinion - picnic or shanks/permanent taps?

the collar build is really simple. just four 2x6 or 2x8's depending on how tall you need for the keg on the hump. then just use construction adhesive (liquid nails is typical brand) and glue the collar to the top of the freezer. screw the hinges of the lid into the collar and voila. then you can...

Help a newbie plan out a year

everything looks good, i'm guessing the issue might have been the organic cider. I'll give you my secret recipe but don't tell anyone. it very very guarded. 5 gallons mott's 100% apple juice from walmart. the cheap kind, not the organic stuff with apple bits in it. 1 package wyeast American...

Help a newbie plan out a year

what was it about it that was just ok? and is there a type of commercial cider you're trying to emulate. I love my cider, it's very close to a redds apple ale in taste. I'm doing 5 gal batches and kegging it, and i'm at about 30 days from pitch to glass. but my recipie is fairly simple, so not...

    Foaming

i think you're right on track with the beer in the lines getting cold. psi should be at about 10-12 for 37 degrees, and 10' of line should be about right. psi of 8 is just compensating and the under carb in the beer comes out of solution easier. are your taps in a tower or off the side? somehow...

Temperature Setting for Chest Freeze/Fermentation Chamber

you can set the freezer temp to coldest setting, as the temp controller is the one doing the on and off work. definately add a fan and i keep my thermometer end in a bucket of water to lower my temp swings.

7cu Keezer under a wet bar - what is utopia ?

always a good day when the wife gives the go ahead. I think the toughest part is going to be cooling the lines 4-5 feet away from the cooler. sounds like a glycol set-up to me- which i have no experience with. I could imagine a copper recirculation set up with an aquarium pump running along...

East Coast Style Wheat IPA Critique

looks tasty, but won't the biscuit throw the flavor off of the wheat too much? I'd do the identical recipie, but leave out the 3 different 1/2 lb malts. and why the 3 step mash rather than a single at 150-154 ish? just wondering, I've only done single temp mashes.

North East IPA to Keg 1st keg fill

did you dry hop directly or in a bag? if it was direct you definately need to let it settle out, and maybe even think about doing a bag dry hop in the keg during serving. depends on how much aroma you're looking for from the hops.

North East IPA to Keg 1st keg fill

i wouldn't rack it, but cold crash it in a fridge for 2 days before racking to keg. that'll help with material in suspension, it's not gonna clear, but that's not the style anyway. I would vote to go 3 weeks in primary then crash and keg, but that's hard to wait that long if you're ready to...

Passive cooling with blue ice in a tub

i would just fill gallon size ziplock bags with water and lie them flat on a shelf in the freezer. they should freeze fairly thin. then rotate 3 at a time in to the tub and back to the freezer. I have a tub from walmart that holds my 6 gall carboy and has room for 4 1 liter cheap water bottles...

    Water Trying To Escape

seconds on the wilser bag. I've had both the brew brag and binder clips, and the wilser bag i'm using now, and haven't had any water over the side issues. the wilserbrewer bag goes completely over the sides like yours does, so it's not a matter of trapping hot air or needing more venting around...

    Fitzys Keezer coffin Build

very good looking build. what'd you do to get the burn marks on the rough sawn wood in the tower? maybe a light torching? nicely done.

    Kegerator with a dual regulator

i bought a 4 ft extension that goes between the c02 bottle and the dual regulator. That allows you to mount the regulator and move the bottle to disconnect and fit replacement without having to unmount the regulator. I mounted mine outside my keezer to maximize room inside. not as critical for...
