    OOPS...bad connection on imersion chiller

1.02 is a fairly high FG. I bet with the thinner wort your yeast will attenuate a little more and you'll end up with something more along the lines of 4%. Edit: I just realized that your milk stout probably has lactose so you may be stuck with the lower ABV. It will still be tasty, and you can...

Campden mistake, should I be re-pitching?

I have been adding 1 campden tablet to my strike water for 5gal for the past 15 or so batches with no problems so far. I think I read somewhere that the sulphites from the tablet are removed through boiling but I'm not 100% sure. Did you boil your top off water? I'd be interested to hear more...

    Question about Kegging, 1st time.

Yup you will suck up any settled yeast every time you pour, especially the first glass. In my experience, leaving the keg alone for a week or so to carbonate (even after a 14-21 day primary) is not enough time to get it nice and clear. I usually have somewhat cloudy beer until it is around 80%...

Hanson launching 'MmmHop' Beer (Yes, the boy band Hanson)

I don't think there's any correlation between making crappy music when you were 12 and making crappy beer in your 20's. I'd try it!

new home curse...6infected batches and counting

Chloramines cannot be removed by boiling, try treating your water with a Campden tablet to remove them. I'd still suggest boiling all water that goes in your beer however.

    Butterfingers

For one vial I'd suck it up as a loss and just get another. I would rather waste a vial than a vile and batch of wort. To answer your specific question though, the odds of some sort of contamination are very high, but the odds of them being significant enough to ruin your beer aren't quite as...

    Research Survey (Prizes available)

I filled it out, if I'm selected I hope the gift card is for somewhere that ships to Canada!

What is the the favorite part of your brew day?

My vote goes to the sudden burst of hop aroma when you toss them in the boil.

How many Cornies do you own?

Four. Two in the fridge and two to hold their replacements.

    Star San

I find it helpful to not shake fermentors or kegs with starsan, but just lightly rotate and swirl it around to sanitize. I still get some (useful) foam, but nothing bothersome.

    Making liqueurs?

I tried some of these "super yeast" packs a years ago and they were absolutely horrendous. They make high alcohol for sure, but that doesn't mean you can really drink it. As already mentioned you would need a vodka or similar neutral alcohol base to flavour. The density or body comes from the...

Let's find out who has the cheapest Kegs!

I recently got two ball locks straight from my local Pepsi distributor, they sell them once the rubber starts to come off the top. $25+tax each, plus I picked up a couple O-ring sets from my LHBS.

    Yeast inactive, substitutes?

Your not going to see a whole lot of slurry in 1L of starter, have you checked the gravity to ensure it hasn't fermented?

    Forgot Liquid extract

Don't worry, just add it to a pot with a bit of water and boil it for 10 minutes to sanitize, then cool it covered to room temperature. Dump it in the carboy.

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I brewed this as my second AG, just put it in the keg for force carb and conditioning. I tried to use Beersmith to calculate my water volumes, but I did something wrong and ended up boiling off way too much water. My OG was 1.052 and Notty chopped it down to 1.004! It's a much bigger beer then I...
