    Best Way To Boil

I've gotten through a few extract brews with a coue more planned. I'm starting to look into making the switch to all grain and am hitting a few snags on the equipment side. I decided to do BIAB because it seems much simpler - 1 container and a bag. And I'm only really interested in doing 5...

    Water Report Gives Ranges

Thanks a ton! #2 in your post really helped with knowing that I can start simple.

    Water Report Gives Ranges

I'm a couple batches in with extract brewing and starting to look forward to transitioning to BIAB all grain. One big change seems to be that I need to care about my water (can't just dump distilled in with the extract). Everything I've read said water reports should list averages and brew water...

    airlick leaked/blown

I've got a few packs of safale 05 left. I'm gonna use those up with starters and probably switch entirely to the white labs stuff. They're easier with pretty significantly positive results (will be more positive when I know to use a blowoff hose for a few days).

    airlick leaked/blown

WLP005. I can't believe how quick/vigorous its going. Sitting at 70 degrees. Very much like how easy this yeast is/was, will definitely start with a blowoff next time!

    airlick leaked/blown

Just saw the auto correct on the title. Haha. Thanks. Things seem to be going nicely now with the blowoff valve. I'm assuming this is due to the type of yeast? My last batch had a very close OG but I used rehydrated dry yeast. This batch I used pure pitch and within 12 hours it was bubbling...

    How much hops in IPA?

Thanks for all the replies. Really gives me a lot of insight. One thing that I don't quite get is all the talk of hopping at flameout. Currently I'm brewing with extract and from everything give read you're supposed to cool the wort as fast as possible to get a good cold break. If you add hops...

    airlick leaked/blown

Brewed a brown ale last night using pure pitch yeast. It was fermenting vigorously by this morning when I left for work. When I got home beer had sprayed out of the tiny holes in the airlock and the top piece of it was slightly unsealed. It was also filled with beer and not sanitizer. I...

    How much hops in IPA?

I'm trying to put together a recipe for an IPA for my third brew batch. I did an APA for my first and a northern English brown for my second. BJCP style guidelines say an IPA should be between 40 and 70 IBU. To achieve this and get a high amount of hop flavor I designed a recipe that added...

    Have my hops gone bad?

Thanks. I was slightly panicking about it. First time using english hops. :/ Will post how it turns out when I drink some :D

    Have my hops gone bad?

I just brewed my second beer - a northern English brown and had some concerns about my hops from their aroma. The first beer I brewed was an APA. When I opened the hop packets (simcoe) the aroma was strong, fresh and pleasent. Tonight I opened east Kent goldings and fuggles. Both smelled...

Beginner Questions (Late Extract Additions, Specialty Grains, Recipe)

Thanks! That's super helpful. I'm assuming letting the extract pasturize for 10 minutes after the boil won't cause huge issues with the cold break after?

Beginner Questions (Late Extract Additions, Specialty Grains, Recipe)

Hey, I recently started brewing. Background -> I've read a bunch of articles, forums, magazines and also Palmer's How to Brew. I brewed an american pale ale for my first batch. It's not ready to drink yet but things seemed to all go quite well so far. I created a pretty simple recipe to...
