    What Color to Bottle In?

Thank you. I know that a clear bottle in beers is done on purpose to give it that skunk flavor. Wanted to make sure that a few of my whites could go into darker bottles (a few short on clear ones). Thank you everyone!

    What Color to Bottle In?

I am fermenting a Chardonnay and I am finding bottles to bottle in soon. I was wondering, when I buy Chardonnay it normally comes in clear or slightly colored glass. Do I need to find bottles with the same characteristics? Does the color of the bottle add flavor to the wine or take away...

    Amazing...Dealyed Start!

I used a kit from Williams brewing and how the yeast comes is what I believe is a wyeast packet. So you pop the packet of wort inside the package then wait a few days for the bag to swell then pitch. Isn't that just about the same as a starter?

    My third batch got infected

My first batch the trub floated to the top and looked stringy like snot, I then promptly posted pictured on here and proclaimed to the world that is was infected just hours after beginning. Seeing the beer tortures the mind. It wasn't. Yeast is disgusting. Wort becoming beer is disgusting...

    Amazing...Dealyed Start!

I am a newbie to home brewing (second batch). My first batch I pitched the yeast into 80 degree wort because I just could not get the temp down on the wort anymore and got frustrated and pitched the yeast. I had active fermintation within 1 hour! My second batch I perfected the ice water...

A question about increasing the alcohol content.

I am asking to know if it is possible. Let's say that I am going to rack to secondary and I take a gravity reading and do not like the alcohol content. Can I boild some corn sugar, add it to the secondary fermenter and let is sit to increase the alcohol content? Will this kill the...

    Floating Troob?

Thank you. My wife is laughing at me, but I equate it to this: When I found out that we were going to have our first child our first thoughts were, "I hope it's not mentally challenged or deformed." Now with brewing my first beer I am staring at it thinking, "I hope I didn't mess it up...

    Floating Troob?

Hello Everyone! OK, my first batch has been in primary for 4 hours. When I first put it in there it looked like everyone elses. Then out of no where it appears my troob (I think that is the name for the junk on the bottom of the carboy) is floating and around it is this stringy looking...

    Guinness Clone

Hey folks, I am a huge fan of Guinness and this winter I would love to attempt a Guinness clone. I found the following recipe, but I was wondering if anyone has one that they have had success with personally? http://www.brewingkb.com/recipes/guinness-clone-497.html#

    How to use beer finings

I purchased some isinglass finnings to help the clarity of my beer in secondary fermintation and I wonder how to put into my beer? Do I have to boil them with some of my ferminted beer? Water? Or is it just a waste of time?

    Question Brew Kit from Williams

Now the kit is supposed to make 5 gallons of beer, should I add more water to account for lost beer during primary and secondary racking or 1) will this throw off the beer flvor? 2) do they account for this normal loss in the apricot extract? so many unknowns for such a simple process.

    Question Brew Kit from Williams

Hello Everyone: I have two questions. I just bought my first kit from Williams brewing. I purchased the Apricot Ale with a rating of beginner on the brew. 1) How long do I boil my malt before adding the flavoring hops to the wort? The directions make it seem like I boil the malt for 1...

    sanitizing ?

You can easily make a simple sanitizing solution by filling the fermentor bucket with 5 gallons of water and adding 5 tablespoons of chlorine bleach (a concentration equivalent to 1 TBS/gallon, or 4 ml/L). Soak all items that need to be sanitized in this bucket for 20 minutes. After soaking...

    Specific Gravity whats the story

I have been reading the forums and a common problem for new people is to know when to remove the beer from primary fermintation and place into secondary fermintation. I know that when the airlock stops bubbling that is a good indication, but the best way seems to be specific gravity. I know to...
