    Do you ever drink BMC?

I don't buy BMC in stores, but if someone offers me a BMC, I drink it. Beer is beer. :mug:

    Safe to check

+1 No harm in opening the lid to take a reading, just make sure your hydrometer is well sanitized.

    Moving carboy

Certainly seems risky, but if you really feel you need to bottle at another location, just drive really slow and try your best to minimize sloshing.

    A Newbie and The WAITING

Relax, don't worry, have a homebrew :mug: Be sure to give all stages plenty of time. If you want to establish a pipeline and have more things going at once, and have the funds, you can always grab a second fermenter, and start another brew while the first one is finishing up fermentation...

First-time cleaning of commercial beer bottles

Awesome video, thanks Revvy. I don't have a LHBS nearby so I'll just put one of those jet washers in my next online order. I'll be sure to Oxyclean these bottles overnight then. Thanks for the advice, everyone!

First-time cleaning of commercial beer bottles

Color me stupid, what the heck is that on the right? Something to rinse the bottles with after soaking?

New Brewer in Fort Worth, Texas

Welcome :mug: I'm originally from the DFW area (Plano actually). You work quickly, don't you! Congrats on already being up to all-grain and possibly kegging. I still stick to extract and partial-mashes, as I'm somewhat limited in space and funds.. but someday..

First-time cleaning of commercial beer bottles

So I'm getting ready for bottling my first 5-gallon batch, and it'll be my first time using glass bottles (used PET bottles in the past). I am planning on cleaning some Sam Adams bottles to use for the first time. I don't have a bottle brush (as recommended in John Palmer's book) to clean the...

    Bottling temp

Sorry if I'm thread hi-jacking, but I was wondering what happens if you carb/condition at HIGHER temps, like around 80F. Can this produce off-flavors in the beer at this point, or hurt the carb process? With summer approaching, I'm just wondering, since the inside of my house will often be...

    Swamp Cooler

I've read a few reviews/comments from people saying that when they mounted temp stickers on the outside of their carboys/buckets, some of the sticker faded away or ceased to work if water came into contact with it. Is that a common problem? I suppose I could put clear tape over it to protect...

    Wing Capper Gone Wild

Stauffbier and HDChef, was your wing capper just eating twist-offs, or pry-offs too? Mine ate a few twisties but I'm hoping it has no issues with pry-off bottles. Sounds like the bench capper is better in general... bah, may have to give in to one soon.

With a hydrometer, how do you tell when the beer is ready?

Kit or no kit, all extract or all grain; no matter your method, you will want to give it more than just a few days to ferment. Sometimes fermentation can appear complete, but in fact is just stalled. The only real way to know is with a hydrometer reading. Even if fermentation does complete in...

Should I Bottle or Leave in Secondary

In your situation, if you are aiming for the most drinkable beer by Easter, I'd agree with the others here and bottle now. The extra week in the bottle will help a lot. Revvy's point is still valid. Even at 3 weeks, while your beer will probably be good, it may not be completely ready, so...
