Auber EZ boil temp readings drifting/failure question

That's what I originally thought the problem might be. It seems to me that the female end of the connection is what provides the pressure. If the cleaner doesn't help I think I may replace the female connector which is on the wire that connects the controller to the kettle on the kettle side.

Auber EZ boil temp readings drifting/failure question

I'll try that. I'll have to order some off of Amazon. I did clean the male end with rubbing alcohol but have no good way the clean the other end with what I had.

Auber EZ boil temp readings drifting/failure question

I have an Auber Cube clone. If I jiggle the connection for the temperature probe going into the kettle the temperature reading with start to vary, sometimes by hundreds of degrees. I took apart the connector on the wire that plugs into the kettle and the solder connections seem fine. It seems...

    Brew Kettle Volume Markings

I have a brew kettle which has stick on volume markings that are falling off. I read about using a 9 volt battery to etch volume marking into the side of the kettle. I want some sort of stencil to use to form the markings. I went to Joann's today but they didn't have anything. I tried Amazon but...

    Mashed at 165

I forgot to add that the beer smelled fine, nothing unusual. I'm not sure if fermentation could have been done or it things where normal because there wasn't really any krausen compared to normal.

    Mashed at 165

Yesterday I decided to just cut my losses and tossed the batch. Originally it seemed like it was fermenting normally at the start, but less than 24 hours later all fermentation stopped. After looking at the carboy in better light what I thought might be mold seemed more like normal krausen but...

    Mashed at 165

So I continued with my mash and boil. My OG and FG where about 2 points below what I normally get so I thought I was in good shape. I pitched my harvested yeast like I have done hundreds of times before and this morning it was bubbling away but I didn't look closely. I just looked at it now and...

    Mashed at 165

The OG is reading 1.036, It's usually 1.038 to 1.040 so maybe it will turn out OK. I guess I will continue with my brew day. I see other similar posts and it seems like I will end up with a sweeter beer.

    It was about 5 minutes.

    Mashed at 165

Something happened to my temperature probe and my controller started heating my mash. By the time I realized there was a problem the mash was at 165 - 168 degrees. Should I just start form scratch? Thanks.

    Bottle Priming

I have always used corn sugar for priming. I have a bunch of granulated (cane/white) sugar which I want to use up. Is there any difference between the 2 when used for priming? Do you same amount? Thanks.

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

I haven't noticed any difference in the way the ferment looks compared to using flaked grains. In the end it clears up nicely.

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

The first time I used quick grits was with an American lager recipe which called for a pound of flaked corn and a pound of flaked rice. I got around 72% efficiency. I then started to gelatinize the grits and rice and my efficiency went up to around 85% which is what I get with flaked grains.

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

I found if I don't gelatinize the grits first I get very poor efficiency. I leave about 4 gallons of water in my kettle and simmer the grits for about an hour then let it sit overnight. I have the same issue with the clogging. What I have been doing is to put the grits and rice in a BIAB bag and...

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

I use Quaker Quick Grits too, it's about $0.50 a pound. I found that I need to gelatinize tem first.

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

I have been brewing this recipe for a few years now. It seems to me that mashing for 1 1/2 hours may be necessary because of the corn and rice. Is the 1 1/2 hours boil time necessary? Thanks

    US-05 vs. Nottingham

I will still do a swap experiment (underway) and if I do not prefer one or the other I will stay with the stick with the notty, thanks.

    US-05 vs. Nottingham

I save my yeast and my refrigerator it's getting full. I have 2 ale recipes I like that I got on this forum, Cream of Three Crops uses US-05 and Centennial Blonde uses Nottingham. I am planning of doing an experiment to see if I can taste the difference between the two yeasts for both recipes...

    BIAB Advantages

I agree, I think I spent about $600 for a semi DIY 240V system with temp control, recirc and whirlpool. For me it's easy and most importantly it takes up very little space, about 3 sq ft., I have the ideal place in a semi fixed up utility room which has a window so ventilation is not a problem...
