    Grits vs. Craked Corn

I'll guess I'll stick with quick grits.

    Grits vs. Craked Corn

If a recipe calls for flaked corn I have started to use quick grits, it's more available and cheaper I cook the grits first to gelatinize them and then add it to the mash. I have done a few experiments and cannot tell the difference between this and flaked corn but with quick grits I have found...

    Dry storage for grain

Around 2017 I got 3 of these for around $17 each. I subscribed to homebrewfinds which alerted me to the deal. I should have gotten at least one more. https://www.amazon.com/Vittles-Vault-Outback-Airtight-Container/dp/B0002DJOOI

    Free Hop Plants

I am not interested in shipping the plants. They are in the ground.

    Free Hop Plants

I have 3 hop plants, Columbus, Sterling and Chinook, that are 3 years old. At the end of last year I replanted them because they were getting in the way. I got a pound (dried) from the Columbus last year, not as much from the others. Assuming they made it though the Winter does anybody want...

I think I forgot to add priming sugar.

I started drinking a batch of beer that should be carbonated but it's not. I must have forgotten to add priming sugar. I was thinking about opening each bottle and adding corn sugar but I do not know how much. I'm not too concerned with optimal carbonation, I just want a ballpark amount. Maybe a...

    Wort Chiller

If cleaning a SS WC will save me some time cleaning it and keeping it clean then it may be worth switching. I think I typically spend about 15 minutes cooling the wort. It's dependent on the time of the year and what final temperature I want. Would switching to SS increase this much, 5 minutes?

    Wort Chiller

I have a copper wort chiller. I have read that copper is not good for beer. My copper wort chiller seems difficult to keep clean also. I have this: https://www.amazon.com/NY-Brew-Supply-W3850-CV-Efficient/dp/B01C856JQI/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=wort+chiller&qid=1609793527&sr=8-1 They have the...

    Aquarium pump aeration- how long?

I bought the stone at the LHBS not Amazon. I used to use the Benzomatic bottled oxygen but it got too expensive. I think the valve I was using had a leak.

    Aquarium pump aeration- how long?

So I don't have a problem with the foam while aerating I aerate in the brew kettle while it's cooling down. I try to put the aerator in when the wort reaches about 75-80 degrees. This seems to be the morebeer aquarium pump if you want a backup...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

OK, thanks. I guess I will do use the Shoprite brand.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I have been thinking about making this too. My local Shoprite had Mott's on sale for $2 for a 1/2 gallon. I looked at the label and it said it was make from apple and grape concentrate. The Shoprite brand was made with just apple concentrate and was just $1 per 1/2 gallon, it didn't mention...

    How Long Does Champagne Last

I inherited a bottle of Armand de Brignac Ace of Spades Brut Rose Chanpagne. I have seen it advertised for $450 a bottle. I contacted the manufacturer and they said "It is a blend of 2006, 2008 and 2009 vintage and was disgorged in 2012". Does anybody know if it will still be good assuming it...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I have a 3 gallon carboy that I do not use so I will be making a 3 gallon batch. I was wondering if it's better to age the wine in the carboy or eventually bottle it and let it age in the bottle. Thanks.

    Bottle Corker

I saw a thread on Apfelwein and want to give it a try. Can I use one of these to cork the bottles? https://www.amazon.com/Homebrewers-Outpost-B503-Capper-Ferrari/dp/B074D92KT3/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=bench+capper&qid=1606078727&sr=8-6

    Boil-off Rate

Here is the thread I was referring to: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/any-downside-to-a-low-boil-off-rate.674194

    Boil-off Rate

I agree, the last time I set the power level to 25% and came fairly close to 6%. This time I set the power level to 30% because it was freezing out but I over compensated and had to add a quart of water at the end of the boil to achieve what I want to put in the fermenter which is 5 1/2 gallons.

    Boil-off Rate

What is hot break? Is it proteins. If it is then maybe it the contributor of my chill haze problems. Next time I'll take a picture.

    Boil-off Rate

I read a thread a few weeks ago suggesting a boil-off rate of around 6%. I have looked for this thread but cannot find it. If I could I would have responded to that thread. Anyway I used to set my 5500 Watt controller to 65% and had a boil-off rate of 22% (1.5 gallons). I have tried 3 batches so...
