    Vintage Shop PET Carboy

I recently bought a Vintage Shop PET Carboy. The bottom of the carboy is cloudy and in some spots is brown. I kind of seems like it's almost sort of burnt. Is this normal. I also just bought a Vintage Shop FerMonster It's bottom is as clear as the sides so I there may be some sort of problem. I...

    Clean Bottles

I use a cordless drill with a bottle brush to clean the bottle after use. I then rinse the bottle and inspect. Sometimes there is some trub/gunk near the top of the neck (beerline). I use a small brush to get rid of that. I store the bottles upside down. I just sanitize on bottle on bottling...

    Glass or PET Carboy

I brewed my first batch using my new FerMonster. Does anybody recommend a way to clean it. Is a sponge OK? Thanks.

    Glass or PET Carboy

I have decided on PET carboys to replace my 5 gallon carboys which is the size that broke. I will sell my two 6 gallon carboys and replace with some sort of widemouth PET fermenter. I also have two 3 gallon glass carboys I use for wine. I will keep them. I leave wine in them for several months...

    Glass or PET Carboy

I got a used better bottle a while ago. It is much lighter. I need to carry my carboy up a flight of stairs and I really notice the difference in weight. I would certainly go with PET except thinking that PET might get scratched more easily and could be less sanitizable.

    Glass or PET Carboy

One of my glass carboys broke. I'm thinking about switching to PET. I was wondering what others would rather have. Thanks for any input

Can I use this brand quick grits in place of Flaked Corn?

I don't understand cereal mashes. This link explains what to do and is similar to other links: http://beersmith.com/blog/2013/09/06/cereal-mash-steps-for-all-grain-beer-brewing It's really step 2 that I don't understand. With rice, for instance, it's calling for 20% of malted barely to be added...

Can I use this brand quick grits in place of Flaked Corn?

For Cream of Three Crops I now use these: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Great-Value-Long-Grain-Enriched-Rice-160-oz/10315399 https://www.walmart.com/ip/Quaker-Quick-5-Minute-Grits-80-oz-Bag/10312477 It ends up saving me about $4 a batch, it's more readily available and except for a few minutes of...

Can I use this brand quick grits in place of Flaked Corn?

I noticed that that cream ale recipe also used instant rice, this does not need to be precooked if you what good efficiency, other types of rice do. You can use instant rice without precooking but they are 5x more expensive and I think the same thing applies to grits. A while ago I did an...

Can I use this brand quick grits in place of Flaked Corn?

I don't know the typical temperature and times just that I cook at 180F for 1 hour. No you don't use a base malt when you gelatinize the grits but you do once you start mash them at your mashing temperature.

Can I use this brand quick grits in place of Flaked Corn?

I put the grits in a mesh bag and cook at 180F with about half the water I'm going to use for mashing. for an hour. I'm sure I could cook them for less time. I stir the grits every once in a while or else they get very clumpy.

Can I use this brand quick grits in place of Flaked Corn?

I use quick grits and cook them first to gelatinize them. I get much better efficiency if I do.

    Budweiser “Bar Bottles”

W What is S/N? The Bud returnable cases were great. For less than $2 I could get a case (5-6 cents a bottle) for what the deposit was. And the case was meant to last, not like the ones you get from the LHBS or the local liquor store.

    Budweiser “Bar Bottles”

When I started brewing in the 80's I also used those. I got them in NY and only had to pay the deposit. I got rid of them when I moved. I started brewing again 4 years ago and couldn't get them anymore. The box is real sturdy and is coated with some sort of wax.

    Slop Sink Sprayer

I have searched but found nothing that would fit in a slop sink and yes I'm looking for a specific product if one exists. I do not want to hack something together, it's just not worth it. My last house had a kitchen sink with 3 holes, I forget the spacing but two holes near the center of the...

    Slop Sink Sprayer

I have looked into this a while ago but didn't find anything. I want to have a sprayer for my slop sink. It would save me from having to attach/de-attach my bottle washer all the time. Do they sell such a sprayer? Thanks, Dave

How do you Mash in w/BIAB?

I also crush in the bag. I started doing this when I realized how much dust was in my brew room. I crush my grains in the garage by the door and put the bag with the grains in my mash kettle when the water is up to temperature. The whisk sounds like a great idea.

    EZ boil, unstable temp readings

I did a continuity test too. That was OK. Using the contact cleaner fixed it. I would not suspect thee EZ boil.

    EZ boil, unstable temp readings

I had what seems to be the same problem. I got contact cleaner for the connection for the temperature probe on the brew kettle. That fixed it.
