    Unwashed Yeast

Well, I saved the yeast from my second batch and thought i did a decent job washing. However today, I saw what washed yeast was supposed to look like and it looked nothing like mine. I got two bottles of it, i split one up to pitch into two batches over the weekend. Today I cleaned the other...

Left my reused yeast out overnight

Well, I brewed an american pale ale last night, i had the yeast I saved from my last batch. I "guessed" how much of it I should add, and I dont think I added enough. I accidentally left the rest of the bottle out of the fridge overnight. I was wondering if it would be a problem if I added...

    Why did you start brewing?

Well, I started to save money, considering (drinkable) beer, starts at $40 a case up here in Ontario, Canada. I went to a brew on premise(which are quite popular here), paid them $90(for 15 gallons), and they said come back in 2 weeks to bottle. I did that, and the beer was udder crap, it tasted...

    Kegging in Canada

Well, it does suck trying to get kegging equipment in Canada. I was lucky and managed to find someone local that had 3 pin lock kegs for $60 CND (for all 3). I was also lucky that kegworks.com is just over the boarder. Where I picked up 2 complete faucet set ups(faucet, shank, nipple, handle)...

    Tin Plated Immersion Chiller

Hi, I have an easy way to get my immersion chiller Tin plated, I have talked to a few people and they say it would probably be a good idea. I was just wondering if there would be any down side to getting it Tin plated. Wup

Its not clearing up, and still bubbling

Yes, a secondary will help clear, and allow time for your brew to age and flavors mellow. Wup

    grain mill for $20

Would this be from Gilbertson & Page? If so did you just walk in and purchase it or did you contact somebody first? Also were you able to get just one bag for that price? Wup

    Sanitizing question

From what I read potassium metabisulfite is not good for beer. You would be better off trying a no rinse sanitizer like Star San, I have read that it is great, and I just ordered some for myself. Wup

    Dry vs Liquid Yeast?

I'm very new to brewing also(just bottled my first batch a couple days ago). The main argument seems to be that with liquid yeast you have many more options on strains, so you can more tailor the yeast to the style of beer you are making or your personal preferences. I have also read that dry...

    Priming with LME

Just about to bottle my first batch of beer. I have LME instead of DME for priming and was wondering how much i should use. I think I remeber it being 1 1/2 cups in a couple quarts of boilingwater but can't rember if this is correct and can't find the source. So will 1 1/2 cups of LME in a...

    Oil floating In Secondary

Well, I just transferred my first batch to the secondary and there is a bit of oil floating on top. Im not sure how it got there but thats not really a concern right now. So I was wondering if it would have any impact on anything (I'm not really to concerned at this point)? Thanks Wup

    filtering and secondary

Just a quick note, from what I have read you should not transfer the hot wort, or you risk hot side aeration. Wup

LME vs DME -- pros and cons?

I just made my first batch, and for now I am going for LME since it is only $3.76/750 ml (1.3 kg or 3 lbs) CND at my LHBS.
