    Bottle Cap Question

It was just shy of 70 degrees. No. Each of my batches was a different recipe.

    Bottle Cap Question

It was sugar solution in the bucket. I just popped another one the other day, after letting it sit an extra week, and they were a little better.

    Pellets and Whole Hops Together

Is there a standard amount of beer wort lost to whole leaf hops? I like the description you gave of the leaf hopped dry hop.

    Pellets and Whole Hops Together

Good Morning Folks, I am wanting to brew up a batch of Jai Alai clone. I can get most hops in pellets locally, but the Simcoe hops are only available in whole leaf. They are for the dry hop. I could order them online and have them in time but I am curious now. Is there any issue with mixing...

    Bottle Cap Question

Hello All, Three weeks ago, I bottled up a two gallon batch of a Deadringer IPA. I had run out of bottle caps from my Norther Brewer kit so I bought some BSG Oxygen Absorbing caps from my local store. These caps did not tighten the way the others did, and they almost looked like they weren't...

    Bottle Conditioning

Actually, it'll be more like an A/B/C test. We started with half in the fridge at two weeks. When we sampled one that sat out for another week, I then removed all the 2 week beer and replaced it with the 3 week beer. The two week beer is no sitting out to see if that will help it improve. When...

    Bottle Conditioning

Good Evening Folks, The first batch of beer that I brewed got bottled a few weeks back (a Chinook IPA). After two weeks, we sampled it and it was really good. I put half in the fridge and left the other half to age longer at room temperature. I just tried one that had aged for three weeks and...

    New Brewer Yeast Mistake

And here is a full bottle pour... (Pals is a brewery I used to stop at when traveling for work)

    New Brewer Yeast Mistake

We put one in the fridge this morning and then opened it up this afternoon. Very excited to hear the fsssst when the cap popped off. Tasted good, very light in body though, and it was a little cloudy. The one in the picture was cloudier because some of the bottom dwellers made it into the glass...

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

It'll be close. A lot of what I read is that it's better if you wait longer, but you're right at the time frame given so you should be able to sample it by then. When you taste it, you'll know if it is ready for drinking or not. I started my first batch a few weeks back and I'm hoping for a...

    OG Reading Too High?

You're right. I just went back and looked at it again. I have no idea what I was thinking...or seeing. I must be more tired than I thought. It was 1.102. Sorry for being such a dumba**. Good thing I didn't have any brain surgery to perform this evening. Thanks for pointing this out.

    OG Reading Too High?

Hello Folks, I just put together a mead with the following recipe for a 1 gallon batch: -3lbs Clover Honey -Spring water as needed to get to 1 gallon -1 gallon carboy -1 airlock -1 bung -Yeast Nutrient -Yeast (Lavlin K1-V1116) Where I found this, the recipe said the OG should be around 1.095...

    Rookie Question

Thanks for the responses. I did cap it and wrote 2/3 on the cap as a reminder. I did bulk prime. It'll be at 9 days when I can open it. Gotta say...I'm having a blast. The first batch will be at two weeks in the bottle on Wednesday. That will be our first test (as it spent the first week at...

    Rookie Question

Hey Folks, Just bottled a small batch Citrus IPA. The last bottle only got 2/3rds full. Do I cap it or dump it? I'm thinking the extra head space in the bottle will be bad. Thanks.

    Yeast Energizer Needed?

I suppose, but the recipe seems to fall in line with others that I have seen for a small batch mead. Also, I am really new at this and just working on the basics and experimenting. That is how I learn best.

    Yeast Energizer Needed?

    Thanks. I appreciate the advice.

    Yeast Energizer Needed?

Found it in a Google search. Viking Smash Brewing was the name of the guy's website. I doubt it made it to any competitions unless it caught a ride inside the dude's stomach.

    Yeast Energizer Needed?

Thank you. Would it make sense to increase the nutrient amount to replace the energizer?

    Yeast Energizer Needed?

I found a fairly straightforward recipe for a traditional mead calling for yeast nutrients and yeast energizer. I have Wyeast nutrients but no energizer. Is the energizer necessary? The recipe calls for 3# of honey, water, nutrients and energizer for a 1 gallon batch. Thanks.
