Second batch one week in the bottle

Thanks, I know that though ;). I like to drink most beers at just below room temperature anyway. Many seem to taste better that way to me. Nevertheless, the advice is always appreciated.

Second batch one week in the bottle

Just got the chance to taste a small sample of my second batch. It's been in the bottle for a week. It's almost delicious! It definitely tastes like it could use some more time, but :ban: ! It's an extract kit, True Brew oktoberfest. I'm very pleased right now, definitely looking forward to...

My AHS Wit kit came without Coriander-can I add it to the primary?

You should always check the contents of the packages when they arrive. It's not really fair to say they disappointed you or they let you down. I'm sure they would have made things right had the chance been given. This is just IMHO. I'm not sure about adding it to the fermenter though.

Anyone Use Lysol Food Surface Sanitizer When Brewing?

Took all your advice, just ordered the bottle of star san from morebeer.com along with a few other things. I just wondered if anybody had used the lysol but seeing as nobody seemed to know much about it, I'm not gonna be the first person to ruin a batch of perfectly good brew trying it.

Anyone Use Lysol Food Surface Sanitizer When Brewing?

It cost about $3.50 for the bottle. It's a quite a bit more expensive compared to Star San. I was just wondering because I don't really have a LHBS in my area. It would be quite a long drive to get to the nearest LBHS (about an hour and a half). I could order from the internet easily but I just...

Anyone Use Lysol Food Surface Sanitizer When Brewing?

Recently at the supermarket I ran across a product from Lysol that sanitizes food surfaces. The product comes in a 22 FL OZ spray bottle. At the end of the directions it says "Do Not Rinse" and it is for use on food preparation surfaces. It also says it only needs to stand for 60 seconds. This...

Ever Wonder What Makes You Beer Skunky?

Sorry, here's one of the parts I found most interesting. This is a direct quote from the article. "The final product of the reaction turns out to be what we call "skunky thiol," an analog of a compound found in skunk glands that produces a very bad taste and smell. This molecule has an...

Ever Wonder What Makes You Beer Skunky?

I'm sure many of you already know the answer to this. Most of you will probably say "Sun Light" but there's more to it. I found this really interesting article on the subject and thought I would share it. Basically some chemists from the University of North Carolina At Chapel Hill did some...

Is There An Alternative To The Grain Bags?

Hi, I was wondering how to go about using the steeping grains without a grain bag. I heard that the grain bags can cause too much astringency due to the particles being released through the bag. I was advised to use a strainer instead and to run the boiling water from one pan through the...

    Why You Brew

I just started brewing beer. I've actually been thinking about it for over a year now. When I was younger I would drink the BMC with friends, but I always found them to be quite disgusting. For a long time I though I didn't like beer, then I found my first microbrew. It was actualy a wheat beer...

    Homebrew Supply Wholesale?`

Hi, I noticed that nobody has answered your question yet... maybe I can be a bit of help here. I don't have much experience in brewing and I have about no experience in wholesaling. Nevertheless, I was fumbling around the L. D. Carlson company website and stumbled across this...

    Am I over concerned?

I checked the gravity reading today and the beer is 1.015 to 1.012 which is right on target. It is in the primary, I'm brewing an IPA, I noticed a bit of bubbling on the surface of the brew and a very slight vinegar smell, though it could very well have been my imagination. The color looked...

    Black Lager recipe

Hopefully it comes out great! I'd like to know how it turns out for you. If it's good, I might try it as my first lager when I have a bit more experience behind me. I like SA black lager myself, it'd be great to be able to brew it or something close to it. Best of luck. :drunk: EDIT: I just...
