    Potable water hose question

Besides not all toxic chemicals have taste. There are better quality "drinking water safe" hoses at RV supply stores. You can also buy heavy silicone and install your own 7/8" ends for supply lines.

Any use for 2-3 year old grain?

If it smells stale I would put it in my garden. If not I wouldnt worry about using it in a starter. Been there done that. But decant and keep it out of your primary. Made a starter out of briess 2 row that was 5 years old. Worked just fine and was pitched into a 15 gallon batch with 2112 cal...

How far do you drive to your job??

14 miles a trip one way and not a single stop sign or light. But gas is still a big factor in the budget. I cant imagine 55 minutes with traffic concerns. It will get old fast no matter how great the house is unless a helicopter is in your later plan. Gas or diesel will just go up.

    Nailed my first all-grain batch!

Seems to be the most popular method. Batch that is. Less equipment i assume. Never batch sparged went directly to Fly sparging on my first batch of beer. Never used DME or LME before, my very first beer was all grain. Never bottled either. So not sure how all that works. Congrats !

How do you know when you really start making good beer?

My beer has always been good to me, but i guess it all depends on peoples point of view about the type of beer there drinking. Have friends that are dead set on hating dark beer and friends that hate hops. But my biggest improvement was made with the correct equipment. Plate chiller it got...

    Sparging question

Interesting. I always though by disturbing the Grain bed "stirring" would introduce Tannins in your beer, Granted some will boil off but doesnt this "stirring" cause off flavors? Dont mean to jack thread.

Lots of dispersed break material despite whirlpool efforts

I would put it in the primary and let it settle out then maybe do a secondary. Try using warflock tablets helps a ton in the boil of coagulation of proteins. 1 tablet for gallon batch last 15 minutes.

    Anyone brew under a canopy?

Used a EZ UP many times for outside brewing in washington state. Building a awning on my Cave as we speak. But it worked great because it will go higher than most. Great quality but more money than a cheap $89 dollar one at wally world.
