    Forbidden Metal

http://www.niehs.nih.gov/external/faq/aluminum.htm Read that. The key is long term exposure. This reminds me of a story I heard many years ago about liquor distilling. The basic drift of the story went like this: "Life-long liquor distillers were often crazy. This was due to the fact...

I dont know how to use a Hydrometer

Heh... everytime I see a thread about hydrometers, I scroll down to see what words Janx decided to use to say "throw it away". LOL.

    Cheatin cider...

I had an extra packet of Ale yeast, and nothing to ferment with it.... so I went and bought 6 gallons of apple juice and mixed 'em all together. I'm hoping to come out with a drink like Hornsby's or Strong Bow... but it smells too yeasty right now. But anyhow... is this a cheating way of...

    Caffeinated Brew

LOL, with the ammount of beer I drink... if it had caffine in it, I'd be asking for trouble. I think my little heart would just explode from beating so fast from all the caffine. LOL. Think I'll stick with traditional additives, or at least non-stimulant additives.

    liquid condensing in airlock?

I bottled that questionable batch today. The gravity was 1.014. That "strange" taste is completely gone now. It tastes good (hoppy, but that's how I wanted it), but a little raw. I plan on aging it for a month. The "condensation" wasn't actually condensation at all. Like I said in my...

    Harvesting yeast

Hello. I just picked up 4-pack of Duvel from my local liquor store. Since Duvel is bottle conditioned, there's a layer of yeast at the bottom of the bottles. Is there a way I can harvest this yeast to use in my own beer, and grow enough to make it pitchable? Or would that not be a good idea?

    supplies

Northern Brewer uses UPS and has competitive prices with Midwest, a lot of items are actually cheaper. The selection isn't as varied, however. I'm actually surprised to hear you like UPS better than FedEx. I have several packages shipped to me daily, most of which are sensitive electronic...

Do you keep the beer labels or bottle caps from the interesting brews you've tried?

There's a lot of "++++" in there, is that out of 5?

    Water won't boil HELP!

Or, if he doesn't feel like re-wiring his kitchen... he could just buy a new kettle? ;)

    being sick dangerous to beer?

This may sound like a dumb question.... but.... I've had the flu for the past week now. I have a batch of beer that's been ready to bottle for a week, and I'd really like to get it in the bottles. The thing is, I've been afraid to bottle the beer for a couple of reasons. 1. I could infect...

    Belgian Ales!!

LOL, I guess we all have our opinions. I don't like wheat beers all that much. Hoegaarden tasted like fingernail-polish remover to me.

    Belgian Ales!!

Well, you can't forget St. Feuillien, Hoegaarden (the dark stuff is good, white is ick, imo), Orval, Petrus, De Koninck, Delirium Tremens, Orbier... hrmm.. to name a few. Forgive me if I mis-spelt any of these names. Belgian beer is really good stuff. A lot of their beer comes from abbeys...

    Brewing Soda

Maybe it's alcoholic pop, like wine coolers. :p But seriously, I thought yeast only made alcohol from sugars in the absense of oxygen. For example: there is yeast in bread, but you don't get drunk from eating it, ya know?

    Duvel recipe (extract)

Anyone know a good extract recipe for the Belgian beer, Duvel? I'm a newbie and haven't experimented with all-grain yet, but that's a few months down the road. I found most other recipe's for beers I liked but am not finding an extract recipe for Duvel. Thanks for reading!

    Water won't boil HELP!

I have one of those propane turkey deep friers. The unit cost less than $30, and can bring 7 gallons of water to a boil in under 30 minutes. Each batch only takes about 1/4 a tank of propane. Boiling outside is nice because I don't care if I get a boil-over or make a mess.

    Seven77

lol, yeah. But 777 con be interpreted under many religions. The ancient Jews and Muslims all believed in the 7 concentric spheres. The pagans also believe 7, especially a sequence of 3, to have magical properties. Besides my new found hobby of beer-making, I'm also a hardcore computer...

    liquid condensing in airlock?

OK. I'll do that. My hydrometer reading yesterday was 1.021

    liquid condensing in airlock?

Ya, I noticed the condensation before too.. yet I was concerned about the rate of the liquid buildup and the manner it was condensing. You throw in the strange taste and smell... well the whole thing is fishy.

    liquid condensing in airlock?

Ya, I took notes. Here's the ingredients I used. 6lbs "American Amber Liquid Malt" 2.5lbs "Laaglander gold DME" 1lbs clover honey 1st flavoring hops 1.5oz perle 2nd flavoring (after 30 minutes) 1oz cascade aromatic - 3/4oz cascade (all pellet hops) and "Saflager" dried lager yeast...

    liquid condensing in airlock?

Ok, sorry for double-posting... but the situation has devoloped a little. I noticted that the liquid was actually collecting inside my airlock (I use a 3-piece airlock which has vent holes on the sides), so I realized that the end of the airlock wasn't fully extruding from my rubber stopper. I...
