Impact of freezing on Wyeast Pack?

I don't think it should be the responsibility of the company to track the weather where their customers deliveries are shipping to. While they do make an effort to protect the product during shipping (cooling packs in warm weather), that recent weather event was extreme, and considering what I...

    Converting Pin-lock to Ball-Lock

That works fine with ball locks. I have some conversion posts too, love 'em. You could replace the lids or add pressure relief valves if your not happy/comfortable with pressing poppets.

    Clean Plate Chiller with Drano

From kegcowboy.com "CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS Cleaning a plate chiller is a bit more involved than a normal immersion chiller, due to the tiny pockets created by the channels in the plates. These pockets can harbor cold break material, hop remains, or any other solid, and if not removed can cause...

What did you find under your tree?

A nice big strainer, Blichmann brewing gloves, Blichmann hop blocker, 2 sets of 4 sample glasses on paddles, carboy washer, bench capper. Quite a score.

    Conical for Christmas--Help Please

Cleaning it without hauling it to have access to a sink drain seems to be the biggest issue. Removing trub through the bottom valve before racking should help make cleanup much easier though. I believe I would be finding a way to enjoy the labors of hauling 5 gallon buckets of cleanser and...

How To Heat a Refrigerator (WTF?)

I recently had a problem with my beer freezing, and read a tip in another HBT thread that I can't find. Most refrigerators have a switch that the door activates when closing, used for the internal lamp. Pull this switch out of the mounting hole, and tape it to the inside of the fridge out of...

    Bottled beer not carbinating

I made some hard cider last year around mid Oct, hoping it would be ready for Christmas. It was fully fermented, but did not carbonate properly. I was given the advice, pretty strongly by Revvy and others, that with proper amounts of sugar and active yeast time and temp will lead to...

    Two day fermentation?

It could be done, but overall that would be a bit quick. Give it time, go by hydrometer readings to be sure. Good things come to those who wait. Patience is a virtue. RDWHAH. There's lots of ways to say it.....

    Floating mass in bottle

I may be misunderstanding you. You say cleaned with pbw then rinsed with starsan. Does that mean you are rinsing the pbw off with starsan solution, or does it mean you are rinsing off the pbw and then rinsing with starsan? If you are rinsing WITH starsan then you should change that practice...

Please help...Ball Lock Quick Disconnect on Corny Keg Not Attaching to Poppet...

I did this thefirst keg I filled. Gassed it up just fine, liquid side did not fit. Spent almost an hour because I didn't realize the gas side is actually bigger. Depressurize the keg, try the qd's on the other posts, if they fit switch 'em and you're back in business in 10 minutes.

Why do people wait to see if their heat works?

Actually the vent pipe is horizontal, but yeah, the bird got in because the screen rusted out. My neighbor made me a new one of expanded metal, should last much longer than the chicken wire that was there.

Why do people wait to see if their heat works?

Funny enough, I did check mine this week when my house got to the low sixties, only a few degrees lower than I normally keep it. I heard a funny noise in the vent fan, found a fault on the control board, troubleshot it, removed the dead bird blocking the vent (keeping the pressure switch open)...

    Crazy yeast bag idea?

I wasn't thinking, this is the biggest reason. You can only brew as much as you have space for in your fermenters. It's not very economical to have a separate set of brewing equipment for each fermenter, which is effectively what the op is proposing. The other challenges have several possible...

    Crazy yeast bag idea?

This^^^^^ However, a smaller vessel solves that problem. Bottling from the fermentation chamber is actually probably possible, without too much trouble, the worry would be oxidation. Think about making the bottom of the vessel conical, with a drain, so the trub can be removed BEFORE bottling...
