    Refrigerator Control in Freezer

Yep, most of the temperature controls out there basically power unit on and off depending on the set temperature, so if your fridge/freezer is below temp, unit has no power, if it's above unit is powered up until temp is reached.

    Can I sparge it???

I'd say you're not going to win either way so why not. If you use them you'll always wonder if you truly did need them, and if you don't you'll kick yourself for not, for me nothing ruins a brewday like stuck sparges!

Lager in Corny Keg that may or may-not hold pressure

Ok, i know people can and do lager in corny kegs, but I have a dilemma here. A buddy of mine recently was cleaning out his fathers attic and found an old corny keg lying around a decided if anybody could use it would be me. I gladly accepted because who doesn't like free stuff. The keg is a...

    Nice refractometer trick!

That makes sense, since i only have 1 light source in my brew room and my reading during mash and boil are always perfectly sharp, then i take my OG readings usually at my bar with has many lights, i just always attributed that to all the coldbreak particles that might have been in my sample...

    Nice refractometer trick!

I did a search up on here and couldn't find anything so I thought i'd pass on this cool little trick i learned last night from a buddy of mine who has used them outside of brewing. Have you ever been trying to get a reading and the contrast line was all blurry and fuzzy making you have to...

    Yeast Starter

Dude that is totally funny. I'm brewing a steam beer this weekend myself and using my DIY stirplate for the first time! I am using WYeast 2112 though. I would just make the biggest starter you can, for me this is 2L, which will be better than just pitching the package on it's own. For the OG...

    Experiment

7 days is most likely not long enough but it sounds like you're very limited as far as options go. I'd say check gravity on last possible day you have to rack how's the progress? If it's close I say rack it and store for the 6 months, if not then you've already accepted the fact that it'll be...

    Celebration brew suggestions

Thanks for the suggestions, i was thinking more along the lines of something that will be ready by july, nothing strong and something I can share with my friends and family who might not have quite the same passion for craft beer as myself. Thanks :D

Normally i'm good at planning these sort of things but my mind has been all over the place lately and i'm drawing blanks. Hoping the HBT community can come through for...

    Bottling and sanitaion

The warnings are only for the undiluted solution, once it's been diluted with the proper water ratio it's perfectly safe. No need to rinse just sanitize and go no need to rinse :ban:

With the risk of sounding like an idiot.....

Correct a secondary can be performed in a bucket if you choose, however since going down the secondary route is now seen as an unnecessary step unless dry hopping or adding fruit most just stick to a single vessel for fermentation. Others will say for long secondary aging, use of a plasitic...
