    Yeast question

My pliny has been on gas 7 days, also wlp001 - sooo good. Anyway, I don't think you'll notice anything, especially in this beer, and with wlp001. WLP001 is pretty much the standard, for good reason. Brewers aren't keen to broadly accept finicky or lazy yeast. Those yeast fit into niches, but...

    Small starters?

Realizing I never really addressed the question at hand. Ya, nothing wrong with making a small starter and pitching the whole thing. I've built up plenty from bottle dregs, starting at around the .3 L you mentioned, or less. I don't decant at all anymore, regardless of starter size.

    Reusing slurry

This is my take on it too. While maybe ABV/OG comes into play once it gets up there, I find it more likely that if I'm fermenting something high OG, it has strong flavors/colors. Almost certainly stronger than a lower OG. I'm thinking a rule of thumb may not be best either. Flying by the seat...

    Small starters?

Personally I'd make a normal size (1-2 liter) starter and save some for later. If you're shaking, go with 2 liter. I'd save a 1/2 liter and pitch the rest most likely. If I was being lazy that day though(happens frequently), I'd be content with just saving some slurry from the 1.040 beer later...

    Non-Lager Styles with Lutra Kveik

Ended up at 1.051, I think I might call the lutra version Klösch. Also, has anybody worried about co2 poisoning with these yeasts? Kidding, but 12 hours after pitch and the spunding valve is hissing away. Nuts.

If you could only have 3 yeasts

Now thinking a little more, I might sub one out for a hefe yeast. Hate to pick which one, but one would go. I feel like if you give me the rest of my life I'll figure out a way to get it to work in a non- wheated ale. Or to get 3711 to work somewhere it shouldn't.

How Many Gallons Brewed In 2021

    3086 + 10 gallon kolsch split batch, 5 gallons with lutra, 5 with wlp029 3096

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Lid here, as mentioned earlier. I wouldn't move mine, but with a caveat*. I use 2 spring clamps to hold the lid. My port is near the edge of the lid, so it is heavy on one side, the whole condenser assembly is a few pounds. The clamps go on the other side. To add hops, I take the clamps off...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I've made this one a lot, my first AG years back. I've learned a lot from brewing it too, and abused it a lot lol. How many times did I get lucky opening my bucket to get a peek? Or how many brews in the big mouth bubbler that replaced it, before protecting it from sunlight? And the number of...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

This is pretty much how my brew days go too, so that's comforting. I decided to try brewing first thing in the morning instead of starting at 5pm like I usually do. I figured being fresh might be better than doing it at night, while enjoying brews. Nope. To start, I forgot to preheat my mash...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Doing a Kölsch Sunday. 10 gallon split batch, half Kveik Lutra and half WLP029.

    Non-Lager Styles with Lutra Kveik

Brewing a Kölsch Sunday. Splitting a 10 gallon batch, 5 gallons Lutra and the other WLP029. I made the last minute call at the brew store today to grab some wlp029 - should be interesting.

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Depends on your kettle dimensions. I put my port on the lid so that I didn't lose any. My kettle is about an inch per gallon, so if I would have put it on the side my new max would be 2-3 gallons less. 1.5 inch for the port, .5 inch to space it from the rim plus a little more room so that...

Banana Split Recipe - how to add banana to beer

I think there is a banana wine/beer recipe in the specialty or wine section. Wikipedia also has a good write up on the traditional process - Banana beer Though honestly its pretty much the same as any fruit you want to ferment. Mush it, collect juice, and ferment. I feel like a lot of bananas...

    Non-Lager Styles with Lutra Kveik

Good to hear, I was wondering about it for a RIS. Such a tough style to take a chance on to me. If I'm spending that much time conditioning, I want a sure thing. What I've found/read, it fits really well into that "clean" slot right with US-05/Notty/WLP001, but with a crazy huge temp range and...

DIY A/C unit glycol chiller question

Should be fine, the block of ice is probably proof of that. Usually the evaporator freezes internally, in which case you end up with a vacuum on the low(cold) side of the compressor and no pressure on the high(hot) side. Now, there is a real good chance that you could have a hole in the...

    Yeast Question/ Accidental Barley Wine

Let it rock I say... From the Omega site: " You may notice your homebrew package states Lutra Kveik's ABV as 11%. We have tested Lutra's limits extensively in hard seltzer fermentations, and find that Lutra will fully attenuate sugar-based fermentations to produce up to 15% ABV! Happy brewing! "

You know you're a home brewer when?

Please stop spying on me, it's awkward. That said, I felt a little relief when this didn't end with "...from home and you accidently bring the beer glass instead of the water glass into the camera angle". I use stainless tumblers now...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Better than a viscous circle I guess. All this circling is making me thirsty though...

Is their any Homebrew stores that don't charge arm and leg for shipping?

The Taylor store is .5 miles from me. That was great until they closed it, stupid COVID.
