I think I might give this a try, sounds tasty! I'll admit that I have been dryhopping with cascades a lot. I think it's time for a change. Thanks everybody.

Need opinion on dryhopping a IIPA....

I'd like some opinions on what to use for a dry hop in my first attempt at an IIPA. I have Cascade, Centennial, and Amarillo on hand. Secondly, this was sort of an experimental batch, so I only made a 3 gallon batch (to fit my 3 gallon carboy). I'm wondering whether I should use one ounce...

    I wish I hadn't discovered homebrewing...

I am studying to be a physical therapist. Seriously though, I don't really see this hobby as hindering my studies. It just forces me to use study time efficiently. Plus, after a difficult exam, I always get rewarded with a homebrew whether I did well or not. :mug:

    I wish I hadn't discovered homebrewing...

....for another two years or so. This dang hobby is so addicting! I am a doctoral student and needless to say I am expected to study about 25 hours out of 24. Ever since last September I have been completely obsessed, and I find my mind wandering towards brewing pretty frequently while...

    Sg/abv

I just plugged those numbers in to recipator quickly and it shows an OG of about 1.055 if that was dry malt extract. Assuming that you get to 1.013 or lower, you are looking to see at least 5.5% abv. Sounds like your good to go.

Wbat did you drink before you saw the light?

I too drank primarily Busch light while an undergraduate. I'm still not sure whether I spent more on tuition or busch light. :drunk:

Very disappointed -- no Bigfoot for my market this year!

UPDATE!! I walked in to the store that has the best selection of beers in the area. To my extreme surprise, there were 8 or so cases of Bigfoot sitting right in the center of the beer aisle. You can imagine my excitement after being told there would be none shipped to this market. I grabbed...

    5 best american breweries

Brewers United -- I see you prefer vb to all other American beer? I drank a lot of it when I spent a month in Australia/NZ, and in my opinion it was not much better than PBR. It tasted good because it was hot outside, but it sure doesn't hold a candle to any of the American craft brews...

How to bleed pressure from a party pig?

I tried to stand it up on end and release pressure, but lots of beer foam came out with it. I did bleed off the excess when i bottled it and I also used the minimum amount of recommended priming sugar.

How to bleed pressure from a party pig?

yeah they have an online FAQ, but there really aren't any directions regarding problem solving. Hmmm

How to bleed pressure from a party pig?

I've got a batch of really tasty pale ale in a party pig, and I jut tried to pour a glass and got nothing but foam. Does anybody know of a way to bleed some of the pressure without losing a ton of beer?

Very disappointed -- no Bigfoot for my market this year!

According to a local retailer, the market I live in will not be getting any Sierra Nevada Bigfoot this year. What an outrage! Oh well, it'll give me a good reason to take a trip to Seattle or Portland. I Hope nobody else has to put up with such unbearable conditions! ;)

    Help me lower my FG's....

Sorry, I just realized that I posted this in the wrong forum. Meant for it to be under general techniques. Oops. :drunk:

    Help me lower my FG's....

In preparing for brewing my first higher gravity (extract/grains) brew, I would have been reviewing all my brewing books and all the online material regarding ways to ensure a full furment. It seems that most of my normal gravity brews hang up between 1.015-1.022, which seems slightly high...

    Bridgeport IPA

Hey I thought I'd help billybrew out here. I too asked for this recipe a while back and he was kind enough to PM it to me. So I'll just do a little copy and paste from the PM that he sent me. I'll let him comment on whether this is the actual recipe that he brewed however. It is next up on...

Need a recipe for a "big" beer

I have done 8 or so extract/specialty grains batches and all have been relatively low gravity. I would like to try my hand at a bigger beer, but not necessarily one that will take a year to age. I was thinking along the lines of a IIPA, mostly because I have ingredients that are consistent...

Any good sources for 3 gallon cornelius keg's?

I can only seem to find new ones, and they all run around $100! Anyone know a source for reasonably priced (used or new) 3 gallon kegs? If source posting is not allowed, please PM me. I know that 5 gallon kegs are much cheaper but my mini fridge isn't big enough. Thanks

Carapils vs. Maltodextrin in extract brews

Does steeping carapils with the specialty grains work well in extract brews to increase body, or is it easier to add 4-8oz or so of maltodextrin in the boil? I mainly brew APA, IPAs, and brown/amber ales. Thanks
