5 Gallon Ball Lock Kegs (Virginia)

http://www.kegconnection.com has great shipping $7.95 and http://www.kegoutlet.com has $4.99 shipping through the end of the year. https://www.homebrewing.org has great keg prices if you can get over the shipping costs. Brand new ball locks on sale for $75, almost the best price I've seen...

how long are beer kits good for

They are all bad. Send them to me for appropriate disposal. JK Brew the heck out of them, but don't be surprised when the wheat and California common turn out a bit darker (assuming LME, which darkens with age). Or see above.

Is 7# hopper really 7#- milling now

No problem with a 5 gal bucket. That's exactly what I use and I haven't had an issue. You do need to position in the bucket so you can see the screen on the scale, but it is more than "firm". I thought it was a heck of a deal when I purchased the scale. Even at the current Amazon sale price...

Is 7# hopper really 7#- milling now

Get one of these and stop messing around with weighing your grain. Consistency and accuracy are important and an accurate and "cheap" scale can help with both. I picked mine up for $19.94, so put it on a wish list and wait for the price to drop. I really like the battery option so I can take...

    Clarity from Aging

Stay away from the "clay crap." I assume you mean bentonite? I used some on a cider and it was a disaster. Gelatin and sparkaloid seem to work great for me. Time and cold temperatures will ultimately clear, but patience will be key.

    Burner Safety

Agreed. Cinder Blocks are the way to go. Cheap or free and they don't mind getting tossed around a bit. I use them to raise my burner off the deck and they work great. Otherwise build a stand and cover with durarock or hardie backer board. Either one will provide the heat resistance you're...

    Poppit replacement

It looks as is someone used black silicone or rtv to "seal" the plastic insert. If you don't care about needing to replace the poppet itself, you could use an appropriately sized ram to push through the outside, hopefully knocking out the plastic insert as well. If the keg was a new...

Leaky Fermenter. Urgent. What would you do?

Go to your LHBS and get a small bung that fits the drilled hole or go to your local hardware store and find an assortment of appropriately sized grommets to fit the hole. I've used small bungs with airlocks in buckets with great success. I just don't remember what size. It's still early...

    Poppit replacement

Is is a "racetrack" style lid? It looks like you need to remove or replace the white plastic part along withe the new poppet. http://www.kegconnection.com/plastic-post-insert-2/ or http://www.homebrewing.org/Plastic-Racetrack-Insert_p_3656.html There may be other vendors but AIH and...

    Refractometer

If you're looking for a fairly inexpensive yet useful tool get this one. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F2040LS/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 I just got one and so far it seems to work great. Very simple and easy to use. I purchased a huge bag of pipettes so I don't have to worry...

    Any advice?

If you want to clear the cider use gelatin. Whatever you do don't add bentonite. Tried bentonite to clarify a 5 gallon batch of cider and I think I might have ruined it. The cider where I used gelatin was mostly clear in 2-3 days.
