Sampled 2nd batch and bottled 3rd batch today.

Chilled and sampled a beer from my second batch that has been in bottles for 1 week. It's good but not great like my first batch was so I guess it will get more time to condition in bottle. I also bottled my third batch and am noticing my skill going up greatly at that. Hopefully I will get...

    1 gallon resources / questions

I do mine in a 1 gallon carboy and just do my best to divide all ingredients by 5.

What are some of the mistakes you made...where your beer still turned out great!

Ok, I'll confess... My first batch a few weeks ago, light on the reading I tried all grain first without the proper equipment. I didn't have properly milled grain so I crushed it with a rolling pin. Obviously my conversion was a little on the low side so my gravities were low after the boil...

Adding hops right before boil... bad?

After reading so much on here and elsewhere, and in my own short experiences, I must say the general conclusion is that getting your beer to taste good is as easy as sanitizing your equipment. Rest assured, your beer will taste fine.

Whats your carbon footprint... about beer, really.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer#Environmental_impact "A life cycle study of one beer brand, including grain production, brewing, bottling, distribution and waste management, shows that the CO2 emissions from a 6-pack of micro-brew beer is about 3 kilograms (6.6 pounds).[150] The loss of...

    Best homebrew website?

Wow, massive instant response... Thanks. Does anyone know which shops ship grain pre-milled? I know midwest does and that would be a huge value once I go all-grain. Thanks again too, every question I have asked as been answered VERY quickly.

    Best homebrew website?

My lhbs isn't exactly that local at close to 30 miles away. Whats the best website as far as price, quality, and low shipping costs? I've used midwest supplies before but I got nailed with shipping costs through the roof. Just looking for a good balance for quality and price. Thanks in...

My patience, or lack of, got the better of me.

Yeah, I have a few more small batches to make before I can pony up and get the stuff to make 5 gallon batches. I had the gallon carboys already so it was a low investment startup for me with the 1 gallon batches. I may do a midway 3 gallon setup before I go full 5 gallon... not sure yet...

My patience, or lack of, got the better of me.

That is of course only if it makes it 2 weeks in the bottle. I'm already regretting only chilling 1 beer.

My patience, or lack of, got the better of me.

It's been 1 week since I bottled my first batch. I decided I couldn't wait any longer and threw 1 in the fridge to cool off and drink. All I can say is wow. It's probably not the best beer I've ever had (I drink mostly craft brew) but it's good and drinkable for sure. It's pretty light on...

    plastic carboys?

Thanks for the tips, I'll look at the grade of plastic next time I'm there and maybe pick up a couple. The cool thing is I can use those to get cheap filtered water refills there too, which of course would be for my beer.

    plastic carboys?

wyazz, Not sure on the brand at my walmart but thats exactly what I was thinking of. Do you know if they mark the type of plastic so I can see if it's the right grade that staggerbrew mentioned?

    plastic carboys?

I've been thinking of getting some plastic carboys to increase my fermenting capacity without too much cost. I've read a bit on here saying the better bottle carboys are good but what if it's not better bottle? Anyone have any experience and/or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    soda next to beer.

So the corny kegs are actually for soda right? How hard would it be, and what would be required, to have soda next to my beer using an extra corny? Has anyone thought about or tried something like this? I'm no where close to being ready to keg but I figure if I can offer up a soda dispenser...

    New brewer from MO.

I just started my first batch of home brew the other day, not sure it's gonna turn out right but I already have a few ideas to improve on my next batch. Just dropping in to say hi for now.
