Filter wort entering fermenter - Stainless Mesh

Thanks, the plan was to use it for double duty, boil and cold-break. I may be overthinking the cold-break though once use it to capture hop gunk during boil the other may be reduced. Thanks for the thoughts, I picked it up yesterday night :mug:

    Big Mouth Bubbler

Yes, I have a batch going in mine right now. So far, I like it. I do agree with others that say the glass doesn't feel particularly 'Thick' as carboys go. The large screw on lid does seal well, but due to it's size, is hard to get a good grip on to loosen once you've had a good active...

Filter wort entering fermenter - Stainless Mesh

Hey Guys, So I have a 15gal e-herms setup (click the link in the sig below if you wanna see) and I'm curious about a potential process change I'm considering. My first efforts resulted in a lot of crude hop sediment and cold-break in the fermenters which is negatively affecting the beer...

    Need Advice on APA/IPA

If you're looking for ultra low bitterness, I think it'd be ok to go with the Lower AA (my last batch was like 8.x%) Amarillo (maybe .4oz at 60min), to keep things simple. No need to get another type of hop in there, especially a high AA hop if you're not after that big bitter. I do agree...

    Hunter's Basement E-Brewery Build

Quick update on the first brew from the system. Yesterday night I took the first gravity reading since pitching (brew bucket is awesome for gravity readings!) and this is what I got (FG 1.011): Figuring 1.053 OG and 1.011 FG (Wyeast 1056), I'm looking at about 5.25%. It may still clean...

    Rough Greenlee Holes?

Out of curiosity, did you add any cutting oil to the punch before you ran it through the kettle? I found that my larger punch appreciated a little lubricant. I hit them all with a half-round needle file after I punched them to remove any burs and finished with a little 400 grit, but they came...

    Hunter's Basement E-Brewery Build

I'm looking at the TRUE GDM-35SL, which is a two door, slim model. It's going to be really tight for the fermenter, so I need to confirm before hand that it will fit. Price is still TBD.

Tentatively, going to look at a True GDM unit tomorrow evening. Plan is to do a temperature controlled chamber with the True unit, and an electronic heat wrap for the heating needs. Still looking at 'heat' options... but I think the unit should provide a nice fermentation cave.

    Hunter's Basement E-Brewery Build

The Conical has Landed! Running another batch this weekend, likely a SMASH batch this time to improve some skills rather than muddy things with too many ingredients. Going for more technical understanding of the process side so that we can better predict final production volumes. The...

    Founders All Day IPA

I kinda went off the beaten path on this receipe a bit, modified, I ended up adding corn maize and oats, a bunch of 2-row, and citra, amarillo, and simcoe. I didn't end up doing any crystal in here, although when I grabbed another 12 pack at the grocery, I can taste a bit of that...

    Hunter's Basement E-Brewery Build

The heating element (if you're following the standard 2-gang box design and not some other enclosure) is determined by the box size. I ended up mounting mine so the edge of the 2-gang box was at the ridge of the blichmann false bottom. If you don't have that ridge, you would be able to get it...

    My build

Sounds about like my first experience, but for different reasons. Did you have a brew helper on the first batch, or did you run it solo? I found chilling the wort was easier with a helper giving me feedback on where the wort temp was coming out. On the overall volume you ended up for, i'm...

    Location for electric brewery

I'd personally opt for the garage, but either location has some exposure to the elements (humidity/heat/cold). If I had to choose for my electric control panels sake, the Garage would win hands down. Plus, year round brewing would be nicer.

HERMS Help - Recirculation stopped by compacted bed

Yep, JUST had this happen to me on my first batch. Didn't have any luck unsticking it either, though now I think I'd probably do things a bit different. What everyone is suggesting works. Slow down the pump to a near trickle at the start of your herms recirculation. You'll probably notice...

    Hunter's Basement E-Brewery Build

I'm also planning on running some smaller 6 gallon batches in my setup. I originally opted for the 15gal kettles to be more appropriate for both, so I suspect you'll have no issue. @matthew, I assume you're looking at the prices on Homebrewing.org for their 15gal kettles? That's a great...

    BeerSmith 2 Sucks for Me!

As far as reverting batch sizes, I've noticed this too if I use the drop-down to change my mash profile, I have to reset the batch size. It seems like some changes cause the calculations to revert to the default size.

    My build

You'll have to post some pictures of the space now that the walls are getting finished up. Firing the elements for the first time is awesome. Give you a little taste of the system. Won't be too long now hopefully before you're running a batch!

    Hunter's Basement E-Brewery Build

Interesting thoughts. That certainly explains why I had to put so much force on mine to get them locked down!
