So.. your neighbor comes by and drinks one of your beers...

Personally, I'd appreciate the fact he felt like he could give you an honest opinion. I hate sharing my beer with people and having them just tell me it was 'good'. What'd you like about it? What wasn't great? It's pretty rare to get a straight critique from people you're giving free beer...

    Disappointing Results

I'll be interested in your follow-up (results). What yeast did you end up pitching and what do the ferm temps look like there? I'd err on the side of cool to eliminate any other estery production that might skew results too. Hoping for a good batch!

    My build

    Looks great, congrats!

    Combining Citra with other hops

Last brew I did combined it with Amarillo and Simcoe, VERY happy with the outcome. Big Citrusy/Grapefruit notes and a huge nose when you pour.

Electrical Costs for a Normal Brew Day

You're correct. My initial run down didn't figure in the increase in baseline power consumption for the weekends (which definitely makes brewing look more power hungry). I ran through the calculations real quick yesterday so I didn't notice this until later. We also haven't had the meter...

Unexpected Krausen Reaction to Stainless Brew Bucket, Infected? Any thoughts?

Just wanted to follow-up and say the beer turned out great. Thanks for all the input. Carbed up for a week at 12psi and it's excellent.

Electrical Costs for a Normal Brew Day

I'm not ruling brewing at 4am out... but most of the time, we try and coordinate a morning->early afternoon brew cycle. Our tiered pricing isn't based on time either, so no major benefits of brewing in off-peak hours for me. Glad it was useful, we were originally speculating 7 dollars a...

Electrical Costs for a Normal Brew Day

Yup, 10-10.5 gallons out to the fermenter, I think I put that in there somehwere :D

Electrical Costs for a Normal Brew Day

So, How much does it cost to run our electric breweries? Recently, the power company installed these fancy new smart meters that let us do hour-by-hour tracking of our home energy use. Obviously, being a bit of a geek, I was curious what our rough energy use and cost was for a standard...

    Electric Brewery Wall Ideas?

I used Fiberglass Reinforced Paneling in my build (commonly called FRP). It's pretty inexpensive by the sheet (4x8) at about 26 dollars per. It's got a light texturing but it easily wipes clean when the mash hose might accidentally slip free of the tun... Only downside was the installation...

    Pump Sucking Air During Mash

Glad to hear you had a successful mash. I was nervous the first mash-in after our issues, but haven't seen any trouble since. Also, I still haven't tried to go full open on my valves since the incident. Did you ease them open, or did you just swing them right open at the start of your...

American Pale Ale (Mosaic, Amarillo, Citra and Simcoe hopped)

What kind of changes are you looking at for v3? I'm already pretty sure my first attempt suffers the same argument the judges made at the top of this page... A bit too bitter for the style that I was shooting for. I think next time, I'll kill a few of the 60min hops and go heavier on the...

    Miller fortune ad campaign

I wasn't immediately trying to start the craft vs big-beer flame, I simply didn't enjoy Bud Platinum and I'm seeing parallels in Fortune. Platinum is overly sweet for me and tastes like they're trying to 'cover' the fact it has more alcohol in it. Hearty PASS. With that being said, sometimes...

    Disappointing Results

Chloramine. I get it if I use my city water untreated... Got some bottles down stairs that I just can't get through. Campden tabs in the water during brewing work well to remove it and they're pretty cheap. http://www.homebrewing.org/Campden-Tablets-100-ct_p_391.html

    Best thermometer?

I've been using ThermoWorks Thermopop (the cheapy splash proof thermometer). It's super nice for the 25 dollar price, it's not quite as quick (takes 3 or 4 seconds to get a good reading) but it's splashproof and it's backed up by ThermoWorks AWESOME customer service. My first one had some...

    Miller fortune ad campaign

Has anyone actually tried it? Looks like a Bud Light Platinum competitor to me, and bud light platinum tasted absolutely terrible.

    poppet making beer flat?

Both of those look rather flat to me... I'd check the C02 bottle and make sure you've still got gas and the reg is set correctly.

    Hunter's Basement E-Brewery Build

So, a few cool things happening over the next few weeks. First, we did up a logo, because really, whats a home-brewery, without a name? I present to you: The Angry Fox Brewing Company! Second, I got an opportunity to lend a hand at the local Microbrewery last week and help him diagnose...
