    Help with pumps

I find it works well to close the exit valve on the pump before opening the valve on the kettle. Let all of the air bubble out of the input tubing before you open the pump valve, and the wort should push right through the pump head.

    Hot Rod Heatstick

but how does that clamp it to the kettle? Edit: Oh, I think I see. The washer goes on the outside of the kettle, and it sits right on the lip. Is that right?

    Chest Freezer and Controlling Temperature

Wow, that's really good. I have pretty much the same setup as you, except I have a 1/4 bbl Sanke as my FV, and I have a heating pad at the bottom of the keg. I seem to be getting a lot of temp swings, but I only have a few batches with this system. I'm brewing another this Saturday, and I...

    Hot Rod Heatstick

Could you post a photo to show how yours attaches without drilling? Maybe I am dense, but I can't see how mine would go on there without a drill hole.

Thoughts on a 4 Tap Kegerator?

I use a bottom-freezer refrigerator. It is large enough to hold 4 Sanke sixtels (I only have two in there right now), so I am sure it would hold soda kegs as well.

    Chest Freezer and Controlling Temperature

Are you using a thermowell, or are you attaching the probe to the outside of the FV? I used to used a reptile heater, but it started to melt the top of my freezer. Now I use a heating pad (http://www.homebrewing.org/Heat-Pad-for-Beer-and-Wine-Making_p_2509.html) underneath the FV.

    Hot Rod Heatstick

It is a great product, but the clamp does require drilling to attach. I just set mine in the kettle. I have a 10-gal, so it is able to rest on the bottom.

    Chest Freezer and Controlling Temperature

Very nice! Have you ever measured the temperature at the center of the FV (with a thermowell)? What kind of controller do you have? It must have multiple probe inputs!

How much CO2 is produced in secondary?

Thanks. I figured that was the case, but I want to be safe.

If it's for Science, then I will definitely do it!

How much CO2 is produced in secondary?

Hi all, I have a small fermentation chamber, with room for only one vessel at a time. I would like to be able to transfer to a secondary to make room for the next batch. My thought was to transfer the beer into a CO2-purged (but not pressurized) 1/6 bbl Sanke keg, and seal it up and keep it...

    Chest Freezer and Controlling Temperature

Hmmm, OK, I'll keep my eyes open.

    Chest Freezer and Controlling Temperature

I could try it, but I am not familiar with it. Any suggestions for places to buy it?

    Chest Freezer and Controlling Temperature

I don't see the difference between a (dry) sponge and bubble wrap (which many people use). It is full of air pockets, just like foam.

    Chest Freezer and Controlling Temperature

I use a sponge (held in place with a Velcro strap), which holds the probe tight to the Sanke.

    Chest Freezer and Controlling Temperature

It is a good product, but I am disappointed that the thermowell measurements cause such a temp swing. I guess I need to save up for a BrewPi or STC-1000+ ...

    Chest Freezer and Controlling Temperature

I guess I will go back to the probe on the outside of the FV (I have a 1/4 bbl Sanke). I just got the Sanke fermentation conversion kit from BrewHardware, and was hoping that the thermowell would give me a better measure of the internal temp. I have a second Inkbird (the probe is taped to the...

    Chest Freezer and Controlling Temperature

Thanks. I am trying out a thermowell, but am getting some large temp swings. I have the Inkbird, with similar settings as your STC. Have you ever tried putting the probe in a small container of water somewhere in the chamber?

    Chest Freezer and Controlling Temperature

Where do you locate your temp probe? Is it on the outside of the FV?

DIY Sanke Valve Removal Tool suggestions

I have tried the snap rings, but the "ears" stick out into the center, and sometimes got in the way of the tap, so I didn't like them. The screwdriver is working fine for removal, and it does help to install it in the right spot. Using the wrench for installing still needs more practice...
