    No carb root beer

Don't know what I did wrong but my root beer is flat. I used whole grain Hogson Mill dry yeast. I let it sit at room temp for 3 1/2 days and put it in the fridge when the plastic bottle got really firm. I put more yeast in it and sat it out again. Will that help?

    My First Homebrew is Great!

I'm still drinking my first batch. I brewed a Hefe. Even though it may be a tad over carbonated I still think it's the best beer I ever tasted. No kidding. I'm planning on brewing the exact same beer and tone done the priming sugar a tiny bit.

    first batch

I brewed a Hefeweizen. Did a partial boil. Did it right in my kitchen and chilled it in my bath tub. Bottled it 2 weeks later. Turned out great. Maybe a tad over carbonated. I added 2/3 cup of regular white sugar to prime with. Should I use a bit less next time?

    brewing magazines

Need a recommendation for a good beginner home brewing magazine. Beginner is the key word here. Something educational but something fun too. SWMBO is commenting on how it's taking me forever to read John Palmer's "How to Brew". I won't admit that I re-read chapters over and over for...

    Hangar 24 out of CA

I just love that beer. I was told to try your basic Hefe recipe then steep a bunch of crushed oranges for the last 60 seconds of the boil. I'm doing it next time coincidentally.

    Buying a turkey fryer

I've read quite a few threads regarding problems of every sort when buying what appears to be a good deal on burners. What are some important things to keep in mind? My pot is 14.5" in diameter. It's an 8 gal aluminum pot. For now I don't have any plans to upgrade. I only want to do full...

    fermenting temperature

It gets really hot where I live (So Cal) and I was wondering if I'm going to need to consider that when I brew this summer. I'm thinking the best place at my house might still be in the low 80's.

    made a chiller

I only used 20' of copper tubing and am now thinking I should have gone bigger. I'm planning on using it with my 8 gallon aluminum pot (full boils). Am I right?

    secondary fermentaion

I think I'd like to try it but I don't really know I have the need to as I'm just brewing simple extracts and no strong beers. Hefes for example. will it make a difference?

    Welding question

Can you weld a ball valve onto an aluminum kettle? I know nothing about welding.

    The wife and brew day

My wife thinks it's a complete waste of time and money. She thinks I'm a dork because I read brew books in bed at night. My friend couldn't help me bottle yesterday so I told her she had to help because it was a 2 man job and that it would spoil if she didn't help me. I think she had fun.

    No more bubbles!!??

Oh forgot to mention. The temp is 62* it's been reading 60* by a thermometer I sit on top of the bucket covered in dark towels for the whole 13 days. The taste is actually kind of sweet which I like. We like the house kept cold because here in S California it's usually always hot. We only...

    No more bubbles!!??

No I started it on the 13th today being day 13. The fermentation was evident on day 3 but have seen no bubbles since. I did a gravity check just now and if I read it correctly it said 18 maybe 19. I tasted it too. It's good and smells awesome. Should I still shoot for the 11th for racking?

    No more bubbles!!??

I guess I can hang another 2 weeks if you think it best but I am getting really anxious. I used a liqiud yeast. I'm brewing a simple Hef and like I said I haven't had any bubbles since the 3rd day when it kind of bubbled over. It does smell good already. Wednesday would have been 15 days so...

    No more bubbles!!??

In general are you saying that allowing beer to ferment a week or 2 longer is better?

    No more bubbles!!??

My first batch too. It all seemed to happen on the 3rd day. Spilled beer all over the top of my bucket through the airlock. I had to add more sanitizer solution. Haven't seen any bubbles since. Plan to rack Wednesday.

    Fermenting Question

Good to know. It's my first brew. Hefe. 70 degrees is what the recipe calls for. It smells really good already. I bottle this coming Wednesday.

    Fermenting Question

I set a thermometer on top of my fermenting bucket while wrapped in towels. We keep the house pretty cold just because we like it that way. Anyway the thermometer has been reading 60*. Can I assume the actual temp of the beer is 60* as well? I read a thread that said room temp and actual...
