    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing my Octoberfest tomorrow, first time with Wyeast 2124 which I've been using a lot this summer. After cleanup I'll probably make a quick starter with a pack of Lutra for next week's blonde ale.

I finally managed to make a good session (5,0%) hazy pale ale!

That sounds great! But 5% isn't really a "session" beer.

How, and how often to clean mill?

I just have a cheap Corona style mill for BIAB, but after each use I dust mine off with a clean brush, then blow it off with compressed air.

    Secondary a blue moon clone?

No need for secondary with a beer like that. I've brewed a BM clone several times with both US-05 for a true Blue Moon clone as well as with WLP400 for a Belgian twist and they've always come out great.

    Fermenting in nasty basement

Look for some cheap raised floor options for the basement: plastic pallets, or some sort of plastic racking. Then rubber mats or out door carpet over that. Paint the walls with white Drylok, and put in some decent, inexpensive lighting. Does wonders to change a dark, damp basement space. Oh, and...

What I did for beer today

Cleaned up the brew room after brewing a strawberry wheat yesterday, as well as starting a 3 gallon batch of cider. Might start a yeast starter later tonight and consider bottling my strawberry wine.

Do you lager carbonated or uncarbonated?

Carbonated. I lager in the keezer hooked up to the intended pressure.

If you could share a pint with anyone, who would it be?

My great-grandfather. He passed away when I was a year old, and I later ended up buying the house he built and lived in most of his life. I'd be curious to get to know him, and know why he did certain things with this house that he did. As for a famous person, George Carlin.

    Skimming hot break poll

Never skim, and everything but the last bit of solid trub goes into the fermenter. Never had any adverse affect for me, and my beers are brilliantly clear (when desired).

    All Grain or kegging?

Little late to the party here, but between those two I'd have to say kegging 100% unless you really enjoy bottling for some reason. You can still make phenomenal beers with extract, and kegging is so much better than bottling. Upgrading to all grain can be very inexpensive, especially with...

What came in the mail for you today?

MoreBeer order: Briess pale 2-row, Weyermann Munich light, Crisp pale chocolate, hops (lemondrop, hallertau blanc, mosaic, centennial), and a faucet spring for an Intertap faucet I plan to add to the keezer in the brew room.

What I did for beer today

Prepped to brew an NEIPA tomorrow. Not my standard recipe, but I wanted to use up some grain and hops to cycle through my inventory. Just received a MoreBeer order this afternoon.

    What are you drinking now?

Enjoying a Neon Rainbows from Ommegang at the moment. Picked up a 4-pack this afternoon along with some Saranac S'mores Porter for sipping by the fire next weekend.

    Preparing Spent Grains for Chickens

I do that as well, it's about the only food I ever make with my spent grain is granola/spent grain bars. In the past I've made cookies, pretzels, pizza dough, bread, dog treats, and other stuff with spent grain, but usually I'm too busy on brew days to worry about saving it or cooking. Plus I...

    what is cask beer?

Cask ale certainly isn't warm or flat, but it may be warmer and flatter than you're used to. It's typically racked to the cask with a few gravity points remaining, naturally carbonated in the cask, and served at cellar temp (55F) via a beer engine (longer-term) or gravity tap (short-term). I...

    Preparing Spent Grains for Chickens

You can take them out to the birds right away if you want. After a day or two, they'll get funky and moldy if still wet, so if you're saving them long term either dry them in the oven or freeze the wet grains in freezer bags and thaw when needed. We don't have chickens here but on brew day I'll...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I plan on a 2.5 gallon batch of NEIPA this weekend with whatever I have on hand, since I've neglected to place an order for too long. Making a starter with A38 tomorrow night, and brewing Sunday. Instead of my usual recipe, I'm winging it with just Cascade and Lemondrop since that's what I have...

How often and at what volume is everyone brewing?

I most typically brew 2- or 3-gallon batches twice a month, with some cider and wine projects always going alongside them.

What’s your best homebrew upgrade under $100?

When I was a new brewer it was a immersion chiller instead of a ice water bath in the sink. More recently my best upgrade was an Apera PH60 meter over the cheapo $10 Amazon meter I'd been using for a few years.

Anyone cut the dip tube on their corny kegs?

That's a great idea, but I'd recommend some quality beer line over vinyl, especially it it'll be sitting in the keg for a few weeks or months.
