Well, guess I'll bite............. One time a friend of mine found out his gf was cheating on him. We all worked at the same restaurant in this mall and were young enough to get out and about, but most of use still lived at home. We were in our late teens and this was in the late 80s. Gf would...

    Spike Brewing - Ben Caya

I have a CF-10, Flex+, and two 15 gallon v4 triclamp kettles. The kettles replaced my Spike v3 which I regret selling. Don't get me wrong, I love my v4 kettles as breaking them part to clean is easier, I just think I hit a point of diminishing returns to appease my laziness. The first v4 kettle...

    where you get those hops?

Placed my order on 1/13 at 3:32pm. Got an email from them later that night at 9:27pm saying "to get my kettle ready". Order hit my front porch at 12:29pm. 2446 miles in less than 45 hours. Very impressive!!

    Old style phone culture

My younger brother, when he was still in the Marines, was stationed out west. He would call collect and tell the operator he was Ron Jeremy. The operator, most of the time was a female, always had this puzzled sound in her voice when she would ask me if I "would accept charges on a collect call...

Conical Users Large and Small: Do you even dump, bro?

I also have a Flex+ (and CF-10). I agree with all the above as I have WAY tons head space with those vs my corny kegs. That being said, I do like the trade off I have with not having to deal with transfers, especially since I've been doing smaller batches (2.5). I also have the clear caps for...

    Old style phone culture

Back in the early 90s, I remember coming home from work and checking my messages to see who called. One message in particular had a couple of girls going at it. It was like listening in on an all girl porno. "WTH, is going on here?" I thought. Then I hear my friend's voice in the background...

Conical Users Large and Small: Do you even dump, bro?

I'm going to play devil's advocate and say if you are planning on buying a stainless fermenter and don't really care about having a dump valve, why not just use a keg with a floating dip tube and save your money?

    Spike Brewing - Ben Caya

What were the remarks that led you to stop buying from Spike? I think some of their stuff is a bit pricey, but I feel you do get what you pay for. I've been happy with everything I've bought from them. I agree with Maxstout too. Maybe there's been some sort of glitch on their end that comes off...

Tips on separating dead yeast from fresh ?

Do you (can you) do this with a fresh pack of dry/liquid yeast? Seems like a great way to reduce lag time. On another note, from a previous thread, any of you guys ever had slurry that developed a grey or purple line in it? Is that just dead cells or an infection? I had this once, and I chucked...

One Malt To Rule Them All, Which One Would You Choose?

I like their Pilsen malt too. I'm down to the last few pounds in my sack..:( The more expensive malts I might just buy them as needed for a recipe. I think when my club does another grain buy, I'm just going to stick with Briess Pilsen and 2Row. Mexi-lagers and hoppy pales have been go to lately.

Question on 2 month old slurry

I've got a back up packet of W34/70 (one left) and 2-3 US-05. You mentioned a grey layer. Like, how grey? I had a jar at one time that had a bit of a purplish/grey layer on top. I chucked it thinking it was contaminated or too many dead cells, etc.

    where you get those hops?

Yakima Valley for most of mine. As far as older crops, like Agent said, a deep freezer and vacuum sealer is your best friend. As long as the hops still smell good, you should be ok. If they smell like Parmesan cheese, toss them.

Question on 2 month old slurry

I'm doing a 2.5 gallon batch and found some W34/70 slurry from a beer I did on Nov 3. It's been in cold storage in my kegerator since then. I thought about decanting the wort and pitching that at the end of the brew day. This is going in a 4.6% pale ale recipe. Thoughts?

Quick question re: duotight gas side

I agree. Just add a tee and split a line. Those tees are pretty cheap. Three tees and an elbow is pretty much what you get as a 4 way "manifold" with the Komos/Kegland kegerators.
