    New guy Having fun learning

Welcome! I just made my first mead recently, but can answer your question on checking ABV. First, you'll need a hydrometer and tube (graduated cylinder). Second, you'll need to use those tools to measure specific gravity both before fermentation and after it's completely done. Third, you'll...

    Lalvin K1-1116 Fermentation Time

Will the nutrients for beer yeast work OK as well? I don't have a local shop that carries anything, so the soonest I could get Fermaid K would be Thursday via Amazon. I've got Wyeast nutrient blend and White Labs servomyces .

    Lalvin K1-1116 Fermentation Time

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, it ain't beer, but I was thinking with everything being simple sugars and such, well, the yeast may get in a hurry. Apparently not the case. Oh well. Temperature started in the upper 50s, I raised to mid 60s, and raised again to the low 70s. Was hoping to get some...

    Lalvin K1-1116 Fermentation Time

Hello, everyone. First time making mead here (melomel) and I have a question. How long does K1-V1116 take to ferment? I pitched in a must with OG 1.118 on Friday. The Tilt I've got in the carboy is now reading 1.085 which seems awful high as compared to a wort of similar starting gravity. I...

    Grape Flavor

What yeast do you use? I've gotten a bit of berry/fruit from WLP833 the couple times I've used it. I may have ramped the temp a little early for a diacetyl rest, so that could be the culprit in my situation.

    What are you drinking now?

Really gotta wash this glass... Good beer though.

There's some extra protein in your beer there...

    This is surprisingly tasty.

    What are you drinking now?

Maybe. Makes sense for the scale. No one wants to deal with draining that much pb... I want to make a pb something, but am having a hard time convincing myself extract is ok to use.

    What are you drinking now?

I thought this beer was fantastic. Wish they would tell me how they achieve the pb flavor. It's a secret unfortunately...:(

    What are you drinking now?

This is good enough to make me want to brave northern winters. Yeah, someone needs to do a better job cleaning that glass...

    Oh so good...

What yeast for a maple porter?

Extract or all grain? If the latter, you can mash high to limit the amount of fermentable sugars and keep FG higher if you're worried about over attenuation. Not sure what to offer on yeast choice though. No experience with your options. Sorry.

Another from the work trip. Survived the travels just fine. Tasty!

    What are you drinking now?

Another from the work trip. I like this one quite a bit more than the last, though both were great. It's nice having something new to look forward to when I have a beer.

    What are you drinking now?

No breweries per se, but was able to pick up many very local and very fresh examples of beer. Really want to make it by Tree House next time I'm in Boston. Schedule was just a little too tight to make the stop. We did make it to Trillium's beer garden in downtown Boston. The peanut butter PM...

    What are you drinking now?

Work trip saw me in Boston, upstate New York, and Vermont this week. Came back with a suitcase full of beer... Mission accomplished. This is pretty tasty.

    Kegco Glass Carboys

The lid is still functional, but the seal deformed when I boiled it to sanitize. No big deal, really. I'm pretty sure I can make another. It was fine until the heat cycling. BTW, I don't use the lid airlock anymore. The liquid evaporates too fast for my liking. You'll have to figure something...

    Kegco Glass Carboys

I've got one of these. The 5.5 gallon version. The glass is thinnish and there are some bubbles in the casting, but I like it overall. It's not quite as delicate as it seems, really. My temperature controller went haywire during a cold crash earlier this week and froze the beer solid. I was...
