Sizing RIMS heating element for mashing scenarios

@doug293cz this is awesome, but I don't think this accounts for the situation in a RIMS or HERMS recirculation where the heating of the mash and its liquid is accomplished entirely by the introduction of hot wort from the recirculation port onto the top of the mash. The temperature of this wort...

Sizing RIMS heating element for mashing scenarios

I wish I could say I came up with this idea on my own, because I know there are others doing similar things. It's not clear why others aren't doing something similar since the extra cost isn't a big deal after you've already invested in a RIMS, but you do have to run a 240V RIMS in order to...

Sizing RIMS heating element for mashing scenarios

You put the sensor in the same relative place you would in a regular RIMS setup, right at the wort output of the CFC (or alternatively right at the wort inlet to your MT). This avoids any overshoots (just like the normal RIMS case). I have a dial thermometer on the hot water input to the CFC...

Sizing RIMS heating element for mashing scenarios

Well, if you already have a 5500W RIMS element and don't mind throwing another couple hundred dollars to never worry about scorching or flow rates again, use a CFC coil (I use the SS one from Stout) for your wort recirculation instead of directly through the RIMS tube. Use the RIMS and a cheap...

Fermentation fridge heating for 2 fermenters

I have two seeding mats attached to the opposite walls of my fermentation fridge (using 2-sided velcro). Both are attached to an extension cord, which is then attached to an Inkbird. I also have a small computer fan that runs continuously.

    Brewfather missing hop absorption losses?

I'm guessing it's the only way to keep track of who has already contributed an up or down vote (you can only vote once). Only takes about a minute to register :)

    Brewfather missing hop absorption losses?

Note on the gitlab page I posted above, there is an "up-vote" toggle - currently at 18. Perhaps if more people clicked on that?

    Brewfather missing hop absorption losses?

I think that feature request has been in the queue for a while now. Currently you have to modify the trub/chiller loss for every batch based on your hop charge. I agree, it's a pain (also for the fermenter loss when you dry hop) edit: just checked - this feature request was entered 4 years...

    Electric Brewing Controller Shootout Video

Nice video Bobby. I'm liking my wall mounted BrewCommander. I haven't used the mash scheduler since it's easy enough to just do that manually, so not a deal breaker for me. The display is very bright and easy to read. Super easy to change the temps with the touch screen. The cabling is also...

Efficiency issues with 2 vessel rims system

Also, what is your recirculation rate? Perhaps you're getting some channeling in your mash?

Efficiency issues with 2 vessel rims system

Ha, of course, I meant to ask if the OP was sparging. Getting late here.

Efficiency issues with 2 vessel rims system

I don't suppose you have any crushed grains from this batch leftover that you could show? Also, do you do any lautering of your mash and did this change when you went from propane to electric?

Efficiency issues with 2 vessel rims system

I'm really guessing it's the crush of your grains. Can you post a pic of what it looks like?

Induction Top for Just the Decoction Step

That does suck after such a long brew day. Anything you might do differently next time (besides just not doing it again) ?

Induction Top for Just the Decoction Step

Do you have a companion video that assesses the resulting beer? While a super long brew day, things seem to go well in the video you posted above.
