    Another tip : Having my son(13) help on brew days is a BIG help. I pay him $10 each brew day, he loves to make some money and I love the HELP. Doing it all yourself sucks. Plus I am grooming the future brewer in our family. Life Skills people ! :)

    I meant that in a funny way, my SWMBO is awesome. Just not a good match for the non-light lager brews. She will drink MGD 64, Miller Lite, and occasionally my HEFE's. Once in a great while she will drink a brown ale. No one should be offended here by my opinions.... :mug:

    Liquid Lager Yeast not starting?

    For this batch you could run out and get some DRY lager yeast, to save this batch. Next time make a starter according to Mr. Malty, and you will come out fine. We all go through the goof-ups initially, your process will get better once you get more experienced. :mug:

    For an ale BS2 shows .53g starter for 2 packs liquid yeast for a 1.070 beer. Assuming 1 month old yeast. OR 1.1gal starter w/ only 1 package of yeast. If you are brewing a lager obviously much more is needed.

    Need advice regarding running temperature controller into freezer

    I use a chest freezer and I do the same thing... no use putting a hole there...can't remove it if you don't need the probe anymore..... I lose no temp because of the very small gap created by the wire against the gasket. It can also be moved or re-arranged if you do it my way. Good Luck.

    Imagine what is in a Wyeast or WL vial of yeast. (the little amount in there) If you have that much or a bit less, just do a yeast starter and you will be fine. No sweat. I do it. The key is healthy yeast, so grow them then let them go to work. 2L starter when in doubt works for most...

    Ditto here !! Doing more water wastes time to boil it down, sparge enough to hit pre-boil volume then stop. Using way to much water will make your pre-boil gravity come in too low. The key is in a CONSISTENT process you can repeat. Take it from Mike "Tasty" McDole-- Beer brewer...

    I think you might be ok. If you have a LHBS close I would make a run for more yeast. If not 4-6 hours work could possibly be "spoiled" literally if the yeast gets infected. $6 to replace it. My guess is you should be fine if you brew in the next day or two, if you wait a week or longer to...

    Help me step up my wort-chilling game

    I have 25' of 1/2" copper IC and can get wort from boiling to <70 in 10 minutes. I do stir a whirlpool manually (stir in a circle inside the chiller coils) fast for that whole 10 minute though. Temp drops fast!

    how do you people stockpile??

    Figure how much you go through in 3 weeks. I go through about 1.5 5gal kegs or 7.5 Gal per three week period (friends, SWMBO, and me at 4+ pints a night...never mind..:mug: ) .....it takes 3 weeks to replace 5 gal if doing 5 gal batches. So I need to brew and always have ready (2) 5 gal...

    My SWMBO drinks MGD 64 and thinks its great !! Best beer ever.. I tell her it's like water with beer flavor added.... :ban: I say, I have 10gal + of good beer on tap, why drink that Sh$! ? Women, hard to please, and when you do please 'em, they still bitch....
