Fellowship Of The Drink XV: Flight Club

I’ll be in! Offer list may not reflect what ends up in the box... SF Beer Week starts 2/1, so there’s bound to be some good stuff coming out then. [emoji16]

    What are you drinking now?

HenHouse/Social Kitchen “The Third Volume” Really tasty Brut IPA! Nice dryness and hop character, without losing the body/mouthfeel.

Double IPA Tomorrowland (a NEIPA experience)

Just finished kegging it!!! Not at all fully carb’d, but had to take a pull to test it out. Loving it so far! So, in response to the other questions about scaling down, I ended up adjusting my grain bill in BeerSmith to drop the OG to 1.065, and I ended up hitting 1.063 as my actual OG. FG...

Double IPA Tomorrowland (a NEIPA experience)

Numbers! I meant Numbers... damn though, I was hoping I wouldn’t have to buy another program to make that spreadsheet work...

Also! Started my cold crash yesterday evening, planning on getting this batch kegged up tomorrow! [emoji16]

Double IPA Tomorrowland (a NEIPA experience)

To be honest, I’ve had the sheet for years, but haven’t been able to get it working recently using Pages in MacOS... BeerSmith has been doing the trick, though.

Double IPA Tomorrowland (a NEIPA experience)

I had very different mineral additions than @Redtab78 did, but luckily he included the PPMs of his target water. My batch was 11 gallons, BIAB, so I ended up with 17.79g CaCl, 5.94g Epsom Salt, 5.31g Gypsum, 4.67g Salt (I used non-iodized sea salt), 0.06g Baking Soda (tough measurement, so I...

Double IPA Tomorrowland (a NEIPA experience)

Oh hey! Quick clarification question, what’s your actual batch size? I realized that when I built it in BeerSmith originally, I had it as a 5 gal batch. My OG ended up at 1.062, and I don’t think I boiled off anywhere near what I expected. Either way, I think this is gonna turn out great...

Went with Oats! Figured I couldn’t go wrong there.

Double IPA Tomorrowland (a NEIPA experience)

Looked so good, I had to run out to the LHBS and get the ingredients. Brewing it right now! Scaled the recipe up to my system, and had to sub the Galaxy for Citra, but I’m not too bummed. LHBS was totally out of Galaxy, otherwise I’d have stuck with the recipe. Also trying out Imperial...

    What are you drinking now?

Oh, what a fool I’ve been! Lost this one to the fridge gnomes for a minute, but it’s still awesomely exceptional! Thanks, @PianoMan!

Brew kettle with lowest TC for heating element?

Have you thought about 1.5” TC? That might get it just a bit lower. My plan is to just brew 6 gallon batches and chalk up anything that doesn’t fit in a corny as brewing losses. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Brew kettle with lowest TC for heating element?

Definitely take into consideration the size of your element housing, too! I recently got a Spike 20 gallon eBIAB kettle where I specified the 2” element and outlet TC ports to be as absolutely low as possible, and my TC element housing from NorcalBrewing sits just above the outer bottom of the...

    What are you drinking now?

Yep! And thanks! All grain, BIAB. Hazy pale recipe (64% 2 row, 32% Wheat Malt, 4% Flaked Oats) fermented warm with lager yeast and a MASSIVE dry hop. First time doing BIAB, and on a new system. There were many setbacks during the brew/fermentation/kegging, but they were all excellent learning...

    What are you drinking now?

Finally proud of my homebrew! All El Dorado Pale Ale from a Henhouse Brewing Stoked recipe. There’s plenty to improve on, but this is actually pretty good.

Pressurized Closed Loop Corny Keg Fermenting

Thanks for the updates! And actually, the above does bear out! I just cold crashed a beer at 8psi at 70°F(11 gallons in a 1/2bbl sanke fermenter), and once it hit 32° the spunding read 0psi. I spent a good amount of time before using the sanke testing how well it held pressure, and it is solid...
