How the hell do I stop my sister's cat from stealing my yeast?

Socks work on any cat. Just tie it around the belly. It messes up their center of gravity, so they either stumble around like they had a few too many shots of tequilla or they lay down and don't move. Same idea as the clamp, but it works for short hairs, too. But, really, don't be hatin'...

How the hell do I stop my sister's cat from stealing my yeast?

get some bread yeast from the grocery store and distract her from your yeast with it. Put it in her food or something like that before you get your yeast out then lock her in a different room. Sometimes cats will let you train them, but it's way easier to just distract them instead. Or, use...

Almost Time for First Brew. Quick Question.

I've heard that fermcap-s is miraculous stuff, but I've never used it myself. I wouldn't personally go over 4 1/2 gallons in that pot without it, especially if you're brewing in your kitchen. That's a decent kit to start with, too. There's a wealth of info on here about brewing, and the book...

I imagine a non-brewer would call that 'pouring' instead of 'tapping'... :mug:

    Oxygenating wort before pitching technique

I guess I'm going to have to listen to it again, then. I'm positive that the results the guy got pointed to just shaking it around being the most effective in the shortest amount of time, though. I remember it seeming odd, so perhaps his dissolved oxygen meter was wrong. It's also possible...

Decision time for my second allgrain

Yeah, you want about 3.6# of DME. If it comes in 3# bags and not 3.6#, get another pound of 2 row and you should be close enough.

Decision time for my second allgrain

Santa needs to work out something for express delivery... It depends on your efficiency. DME has about 44 PPG, meaning a pound of DME in a gallon of water will have a SG of 1.044. Do you have a reasonably accurate scale, by any chance? What was your efficiency on your last AG?

    Oxygenating wort before pitching technique

According to a Basic Brewing Radio podcast I listened to recently, the most effective way to aerate your wort is by rocking it for about 5 minutes. It was even more effective than O2 through a 2 micron stone for an hour, IIRC. I think there was 90% saturation of dissolved oxygen from the...

Decision time for my second allgrain

I'd use it as an excuse to get a bigger mash tun, myself. But, if that's not an option, cut the 2 row and vienna in half. That leaves you with 9 pounds of grain instead of 15. Once it's boiled for about a half hour or so, pull a sample to check your gravity, then add enough DME to get your...

    Bowhunters?

I've got a 50# Darton Ranger recurve from back in the '80s. It probably weighs about the same as the newer compound bows coming out, and that's why I drool over them... I can shoot that recurve 150 yards and still hit a paperplate, but I'd never shoot it that far at something alive, just...

What Should I Name My Son?

I've always wanted to name something Fontelroy. I'm sure there's a more elegant way to spell it, but I think it's a nice name. Possibly more fitting for a dog, but still a nice name. It sounds stoic, I think. But, alas, not on your list...

    Heinous low FG

I just decided I'm going to check my hydrometer in tap water everytime I use it. When I got it, it read .004 low. I tapped the paper up enough so it only read .002 low, then I got bored with it so I stopped. Now I wonder if it's been moving around everytime I pick all my stuff up to brew or...

    Beer Allergy Diagnosis???

Does it happen on your third beer everytime, or just the dark ones regardless of how many you've had before it? Allergic reactions to things can get really, really bad. I used to be able to eat crab and lobster, but now I can't really do that breathing thing too well if I do. Get worse the...

    Ran out of caps!

Cap 'em up. Mark those seven somehow so you can test for any difference later. You'll probably just get a little less carbonation than the rest of them.
