    Dead Yeast and Neglected Aeration

Thanks. I pitched three (...) packets yesterday. Most likely overkill, but it shouldn't effect anything, right? The fermentation is rolling along quite nicely!

    Dead Yeast and Neglected Aeration

Yesterday I brewed a batch of this Great Lakes Brewing Christmas Ale Clone . Unfortunately, upon pitching the yeast was a goner. The Wyeast packet did not inflate after a few hours, so we tried proofing the yeast on our own. No luck, it was D-E-D, dead. So today I pitched a couple of...

    Fermenting fruit juice in bottle.

Neat, I like the hydrometer idea. Also, what kind of yeast should I look at?

    Fermenting fruit juice in bottle.

That is pretty much what I'm looking for, thanks. I just wasn't sure how much sugar to add per gallon, or if any other additives are needed. I'm currently vinting an actual blackberry wine, so I have a lot of materials if needed. Also, I heard that ascorbic acid was ok, and can the juice...

Any kind of ABV, lets say standard wine, so 10-12%.

    Fermenting fruit juice in bottle.

Hey all, I'm looking to ferment some juice (any juice) that is commercially available. I really only want to do it one gallon at a time. My question is: What do I need to add to each gallon of juice. Thanks!

hey all, brewing a belgian dubbel right now, but had to order an extra 1/4 lb of crushed chocolate malt due to the company's packaging. not anticipating being able to use it in a brew in the standard 2-3 month window of usefulness. therefore wondering if anyone out there knows of other things...

    IPA and Oak Chips

Haha, thanks for the help. I'm sure it'll be fine, I was just curious. For those curious I was steaming the chips, as per instructions, to sterilize them. I may have put them on the stove too soon and forgot about them in the hullabaloo involved with transferring the wort from my boil pot...

    IPA and Oak Chips

So last week I brewed an IPA (got a kit online, don't remember which.) Long story short, my oak chips caught on fire and I decided to throw them away. Will my IPA be drastically different without the oak chips that it initially would have been? Thanks

First Time Brew Last Night - A Few Questions

Thanks, that's all great advice. I guess for starters I definitely need a bigger brew kettle. Would it be recommended to add water to the wort in the brew kettle (assuming a 7-8 gal kettle, mixing throughout, to the desired OG) and then transfer the entire mix, not bothering adding any water...

First Time Brew Last Night - A Few Questions

Last night I brewed for the first time, a Brewer's Best English Brown Ale kit. My OG that I read was way lower then the anticipated. I got a 1.032 while the expected was 1.045-049. I didn't mix the wort and the water, I just poured the wort in to 2 gallons of cool water and topped it off...
