I've not seen one like this before. My IPA started at 1.062. well aerated. used S05. After a week I've not seen a single bubble in the air lock. I decided yesterday to open up and throw in another pack of yeast but when I opened it there was a big head of krausen in there. I closed it back...
I'm extract brewing and using 8 lbs of DME. Boiling for 60 mins and generally following all the recipes. I start with approx 3.5 gals in my brewpot and then topping up to 5 in the fermenter. My last recipe I followed said SG would be 1.069 and I got 1.038. It's not the first time I've got way...
That's a fair point and I was being overly argumentative. As my name implies I drifted from punk to post punk and into 80's goth. I've remained there ever since! You are absolutely correct and I should broaden my US punk horizons. I'm reliably informed I would enjoy Flipper.
I've brewed a simple hefeweizen a couple of times and now swmbo has requested I add fruit. Personally I prefer my fruit in a bowl but I thought I'd brew up a batch and then take a couple of 1 gallon carboys from it. Question is does anyone have any suggestions of what works well with wheat...
Hello all
Its about my 6th brew, nothing special, simple IPA. I used DME and a load of hops. started out at 1.056 finished up at 1.016. The only thing I did different this time was dry hop in the primary.
The thing is I don't normally care if the beer is clear so don't bother cold...
agreed. I went off brewing for years because of the disappointment of my results with kits. I've just started back with a brewpot, grains, hops and DME and I'm loving every brew I've done (with the exception of a particularly objectionable blueberry cider)
I'm sure this has been done a million times but I'm new.
I read conflicting opinions on primary v secondary. some say leave in primary for up to 3 weeks and others tell me to get it out of the fermenter and into secondary as soon as you can. All of your experience and advice is welcome...
Only my 2nd brew so please be gentle with me.
I brewed up an IPA with 7lbs of dme and an American ale wyeast. Fermentation went off like crazy with foam pumping through the airlock and pretty much everywhere else. It stayed like this for about 3 days but now seems to have stopped completely...
I apologise upfront for asking such newbie questions but I suppose we all have to start somewhere.
when a recipe asks us to add hops at different times during the boil should I just pull out my hop bag, add the new hops and put them back in or am I missing something integral?

Hello
wondering if any UK brewers can recommend ingredient suppliers? The UK based online sites I've seen seem to be very limited in the supplies they offer particularly for the main ingredients I'm looking for from US style IPA's. UK based or US as long as they ship to here.
Thanks
