    BeerSmith3 Brew Steps

Yeah, it can be confusing. If you look further down the sheet under Mash Steps (below Water Prep and Mash Ingredients), it will give you the volume and temp needed to mash based on your equipment profile. Then right before the Boil Ingredients, the sparge volume is listed there. I have...

    BeerSmith3 Brew Steps

Are you using a profile in the BS3 database or manually entering? If you are manually entering from EZ water or other program, you will need to manually select which step to use which addition. using the profiles that are loaded in, it should separate them. Here is the brew steps for my brew...

    PID not auto-tuning

I had the PID auto/manual setting incorrect. I was able to get it autotuned and my first free was a success.

    BeerSmith3 Brew Steps

I use BS3 and my brewsteps break down my salt additions between mash and sparge. Do you have the "hold sparge salts until boil" button checked and they are showing up under the boil section?

    PID not auto-tuning

I just set up my Spike EHERMS system and began to auto-tune my HLT PID. The instructions say to heat the water to 150 and then begin the auto-tune process. I was distracted and the water hit 160, no big deal Im thinking. It is now over 7 hours later and the ATU light on the PID is still...

    Minnesota Single tier brew stand

I am selling my single tier, gas-fired stand to go electric. Built from slotted strut with 3 BG-14 burners mounted and 4 - 4" heavy duty casters. Size is 60"w X 15"d X 31"h. Never been fired. This thing is solid. I travel a fair bit so I could deliver most anywhere in MN and neighboring states

    Swing and a miss!

My son and I decided to brew another batch of a Vanilla Bourbon Porter that turned out really good and scored pretty decent at a recent contest. Things did not go as planned! The first adjustment I made was to the grain bill as our efficiency has typically been in the 65-68% range and we...

Wooden mash paddle soaked in PBW

I decided to do a deep cleaning of a few ball valves and other various small parts after my weekend brew session and found I also inadvertently left my wooden mash paddle soaking in a bucket of PBW. Any chance of the PBW leaching out into my next batch when stirring my mash? Though about just...

    Mis-handled yeast

I got in a hurry yesterday when I got home from the HBS and inadvertently threw my smack pack of Wyeast 1728 in the closet along with my grains and various other supplies. By the time I realized my screw up, it had spent 14 hours in the closet at 64 degrees before I could get it back into the...

    My New Toys!

Finally had the chance to use my new brew toys this weekend - Fast Ferment conical, STC-1000+ programmable temp controller and a new freezer that I bought from the uncle of a local brewery owner for only $50(hoping it will supply some good juju!). Can anyone offer some advice on drilling...

    Pre-boil gravity adjustments

How far off on your pre-boil gravity do you have to be before you worry about any adjustments - adding DME or diluting with water? 5 pts, 10pts? Also, if adding DME, is it best to add at the beginning of the boil, mid way through or near the end?
