    Left-over Grain

http://brooklynbrewshop.com/themash/category/spentgrainchef/ SWMBO Found this link. I try to use as much of it as I can, albeit most recipes only call for a cup of spent grain at a time. Also if you give them away, make sure you inform the person if you FWH. I've seen people make dog biscuits...

    Not stuck, bot slooooow sparge....normal?

That is abnormally slow. At least it wasn't a stuck sparge! What was the grain bill? What kind of set up? Rice hills? Any details about your process would be helpful to solve your dilemma!

Some kinds of beer give me headaches...why?

Sorry, I'll put a sarcasm label at the bottom of my posts from now on. And yes what you've stated is true. I was not trying to be beer-olitically (not a real word) correct with my post. My apologies.

Some kinds of beer give me headaches...why?

Density of water (1 gm/cm^3) is greater than that of ethanol and fusel alcohols (~0.7-0.85 gm/cm^3). Therefore the "unwanted alcohols" should only affect the people who cash the keg. Note to self. Don't cash the keg. Edit: It's science.

Do your under age kids drink w/you at home?

Both of my parents drank throughout my childhood. Growing up in a German family (and being a Catho-holic), I was exposed at a very young age to alcohol. I am thankful they taught me how to respect alcohol when I was young. I love good drinks, homebrew, etc., and had the college experience. I...

    Secondary question

A bubbling air lock does not mean you aren't fermenting. Your beer could also be almost done or completely done fermenting (very green beer tho) after a week. Don't worry, your beer is fine. Unless you are adding more stuff to the beer (i.e. - oak, fruit, etc.), you can skip out on secondary...

Question about CFH - cubic foot per hour - on regulator

4 CFH (assuming this is not SCFM) can be converted to L/min. According to the book "Yeast" by Chris White and Jamil Zainasheff, at 1 L/min for 1 minute, 20 L of wort (~5 Gallons) will be aerated to ~9.2 ppm O2. So at 4 CFH * 1 hr/60 min * 28.3 L/ft3 = 1.87 L/min of O2 Run that for about 60...

Water temp vs final temp with IC

Also, if you want to get really geeky, you can record your time of cooling. Keep a record of how long it took you to cool your wort usings a standard flow rate. You need to make sure that the flow rate of your cooling water is the same every time you record time of cooling. You should also...

Water temp vs final temp with IC

Hello, we can do some pretty simple thermo calculations to get a truely rough estimates of time. What you should take away from these calculations are the difference in the two times, more of a ratio of time to cool. First Ice Water Flow of Ice Water through immersion chiller Q = U * A *...

Too much grain, not enough MLT

You could split your grain bill in half and do it twice. Collect the wort in one pot and boil. That is if you want to step mash. It will be a good long brew day. But you might be able to get away with just one step in a 30 qt cooler... It's going to be tight even at 1 qt/lb.
