Anyone read brewing classic styles? Yeast question.

Yeast management if you will is on my horizon. I have 5 brew under my belt. And as stated had success with dumping in a smack pack or just dumping dry yeast. I see a benifit from pitching yeasts properly. I've been doing quite a bit of homework. And yeast and water chemistry are defiantly my...

Anyone read brewing classic styles? Yeast question.

Great answers/feedback. Thank you guys for the insight. I'm trying to pay more attention to my fermenration process. I usaly pitch and forget. And then check it here and there. I've noticed my temp getting to low 70s for ales. Tasted great. Like i said on trying to keep the temp mid 60s so I'll...

Anyone read brewing classic styles? Yeast question.

Okay so I've been reading classic styles. I know this should fit under yeast and fermentation, but I wanted to ensure a response. Most (95%) of the recipes in the book call for X amount of grams of dry yeast or 1.5,2,3,&4 bags of wet yeast packets or "proper" stater. The multipul bags of wet...

Primary only vs doing a secondary fermentation

I'm on my third month of brewing and have 4 batches done. So I can't say in good confindance to take a stand on either of the two methods. I would rather take the advice of a seasoned brewer and roll with that. My friend o the other hand he's been brewing for 7 years swears by racking to a...

Primary only vs doing a secondary fermentation

I do apologize if this topic has been hammer on in the past. I don't know how to search forum topics. I've tried. I'm new and would like to know what the community thinks on this matter. I've been listening to brew strong and they go on about primary only unless secondary fermentaion is...

    first blowoff, infection/cleaning concerns

Welcome to the club. I had my first last weekend. Get a blow off tube. There are many write ups. Also don't stick too much hose into your vessel (oppeset end of fermenter). Lack of better terms. Good luck

    First blow out

Lesson learned. Blow off for every new batch. Must have gotten lucky for my first two.

    First blow out

Hahaha. I totally panicked when I saw it. I wanted some assurance that everything will be fine. We are sitting in a blow off tube now. And she is still bubbling away. It just sucks that this happened while in was gone. I also feel a sense of accomplishment now having this under my belt lol...

    First blow out

Gah made a batch on Thursday and left friday. When I checked friday it was active. Somewhere between I'd say Saturday and Sunday she overflowed. I'm really not into dumping it. I'm thinking just let her go and see how it turns out. I sanitized everything. And put a lean airlock. Anyone...
