What I did for beer today

I vacuum sealed 4 ounces of fresh dried Nugget hops. 7 half ounce bags and 2 quarter ounce bags. I don't know the alpha acid number but judging from prior years harvest I'm guessing they around 10 aa or higher. The first few times I brewed with them I was adding a full ounce for bittering per 5...

What I did for beer today

I too am a big fan of PBW. How ever in a thread here I learned how to make PBW from TSP and Oxyclean. @seatazzz just be a bit cautious using PBW, don't leave it in too long and always rinse your hands after using it. I mainly use Sanke Kegs and cleaning them is accomplished using PBW.

What I did for beer today

And today I'm transferring my Raider Red Ale to a serving keg. The beer is a clone of my Red Nut Ale that I created back in 1995. However, for this batch I added a half ounce of Citra Hops during the last 15 minutes of the boil. It did exactly what I expected. I won a ribbon back then with my...

What I did for beer today

It's that time of year for hops to mature for cultivation. I cut down my Nuggets as they are already beginning to turn brown. Cascades and Saaz are still maturing.

What to do with starsan after keg purge

Never have, of course I'm a clean fanatic. There is no distinguishable hop aroma in my fermenter before I sanitize it.

What to do with starsan after keg purge

I read that it is .02 percent. Upon reading that, it concerned me because in addition to purging kegs, I also carbonate fresh beer using fermentation gas. Fortunately I have not had any issue from that practice, however I am currently avoiding doing so. I will add something else that I recently...

What to do with starsan after keg purge

Wow. IMO purging pre-cleaned kegs with fermentation gas is a big cost savings. I wait until the fermenting vessel is at high krausen before beginning to purge empty kegs. Then I connect a hose from the gas in side of the fermenter, (same port as the blow off hooks to) with the other end...

What I did for beer today

Yesterday I moved my Raider Red Ale to the beer fridge to cold crash until late tomorrow. Then today I updated my chalk board with all the current beers on tap. The Raider Red will go on tap later in the week after it gets transferred to a keg.

What I did for beer today

What I'm doing for beer today! I returned home from a weekend trip to the beach and found significant damage to my hop plants. While I was away a storm came through with crazy winds that blew my hops around enough to snap the strings. All strings broken either at the top or bottom. Two larger...

    What brewery are you visiting?

Visting Lost Coast Brewery in Mexico Beach, Florida. I'm sampling their HWY 98 Lager, a nice clean straw colored lager. Next I tried the Kolsch, one of the better craft brewery examples of the style. They used an interesting hop that I was unable to identify. Possibly Centenial dominating the...

Best names for your beer batch?

My newest and current favorite is "Julio Uno Lago" a Mexican style lager brewed on July 1st. And it turned out to be a great lawnmower brew that is lite straw in color about 5 percent abv with a hint of Saaz that goes down oh so easy.
